Hey everyone,
Im thinking ive got a collapsed lifter? I put a new pushrod in and adjusted it to the manual and it was ticking as soon as it was started up. I ran it about 2 minutes and im guessing it is a lifter. It never would stop ticking. It is hydraulic in my 327 so any ideas? Guess I will replace it this weekend. pretty frustrating for me! I was hoping to put this car up for sale soon. Drew
I hope it's ok,but pull out that lifter and look at the face that rides on the cam to be sure it isn't wiping out. Ed

thank you for the info. This is a new haydraulic cam, lifters, rocker arms, timing set all from the same manufacturer. Its only a 435/453 lift 110 degree cam. pretty mild. It has about 2 hours of use. I took my time and think I installed everything right. I also took the 30 minutes to break it in. Im going to have a look this weekend. It has bent 2 pushrods in the last weeek. Only been setting at idle to about 3000 rpm to get the timing correct. It really has me stumped. Drew.
I believe DQ409 had this happen also.It only takes a few minutes to wipe out a cam lobe and lifter. And it really pi$$es you off when it happens!

Boy did Ed get that right !!!!!!
You have your idle at 3000 to set the timing ?
If you are thats too high.
It shouldn`t be over 600 rpm, with vacuum advance pluged.
You might have some gunk that found it`s way into the lifter.
You might be able to clean it out and reinstall it. Or they aren`t that expensive to replace just one.
Bent push rods? Did you have new springs installed on the heads and have them checked for bind ?
Or have an old spring that has collapsed?
Or push rod contacting the head as it comes up on the max lift?
Good luck and let us know what you found,,,,,,dq

got off work early today. Love them 70 degree days! Anyway took the intake off and pulled the lifter. Sure enough it is collapsed. Not sure what casued thta? Maybe installer error? This is my first rebuild in many years. The cam and the bottom of the lifter are like new, just no spring action! Will put it back togather this weekend after a trip to the parts store. Should I start this as a new engine and run 20 minutes at 2000 rpm? Or just run it as usual? The engine before was run between idle and not over 3000 rpm since rebuilt. The heads are fine and were before installed by me. Sorry abput the previous post. Oh well everyday is a learning expirence. Drew.
