Will 1.8 Big Block roller rockers work on a W? They'll give a tiny bit more valve lift and they're cheaper.

We have run them on both our motors at different times, so yes, they will work. You still have to check all your clearances.

Sothtowns27,I used 1.8 Harland Sharp roller rockers and they broke the tips of my pushrods.I got them to work by grinding the rocker. As Wully Bully says check your clearances between the top of your pushrods and the rocker body.you might have to grind a little also make sure you have the proper piston and valve clearance.

I was told (or read somewhere) that I would have to have taller valve covers to use aftermarket roller rockers. Is this true?
I have a set of 409 chrome valve covers and the original 348 covers that came with. I hadn't put them side by side, but was assuming they were the same depth. Are they?

You should be okay if you use regular retainers. If you use the ploy-locks and a stud girdle, you will definitely need higher valve covers, or spacers. We built several custom high ones, that we run on our cars, you can see them at www.wullybully.com

DQ,
At this time, we are not sure. I would really like to be there, it sounds so cool, but it doesn't look too good. Carl can't get away that long, and Michele and I probably can't either, plus we have a son who will be in third grade then.

As soon as I win the lottery! Right now I'm saving up my extra bucks just to pay the machinist for the work already done.
Have you ever met Chris Sykes at Motor City Machine on Barely St off of N. Jones Road? He just LOVES the W motors and flatheads. Working on mine has inspired him to dig out the 348 that he's had stashed in back for a few years.
Can I save your phone number for future inquiries? Once I get my finances back on track I might come out & dig through your scrap bin. My sister & bro-in-law live out in Katy.

Hey Skip,
What's the date code and casting number on those heads?

I'll see if I can dig them up. I think the intake is a 58 or 59 and the heads one is a 61, not sure the other.
