I just read 2 sugestions. Drill holes in the air cleaner. :cry or pop the spot welds loose. :( Here are 2 ways WITHOUT messing up a good air cleaner.

Tripower and Dual Quads -- Take a 1/2 rubber and make a loop the same size as the filter. Glue the ends together and put it under the filter. Trim the seal off the top of the filter. Put the lid back on with a longer carb stud. Use a bigger hose for more expossure. This can be done with single carb breathers too.

But for singles I like to buy an after market beather that is close to the size of the FACTORY filter. Use the after market base with the factory filter. Gives about a 1 inch gap around the bottem. You could even use a taller filter.

Here are pics to show what I mean. The first is the hose location. If you look close you can see the lip of the filter has been removed. The second has the filter lifter with the hose. You can adjust with different size hose.

Mind if I toss your ideas on the Tips/Tricks page? I'll add "Tom (SSpev)" after it so you get the credit. :deal

Always looking for great ideas for that page. Hint, hint everyone. ;)

An easier way to get the same result is to just buy a bigger (taller) filter. It lifts the lid off the stock air cleaner allowing air to flow in all the way around, plus the bigger filter will flow more air. I did it with my '64 340 and unless you look you can't tell there's anything different with it. I went with a half inch taller filter. I suppose you could get more flow by an even taller filter, but there's so little clearance under the hood anyway that I didn't want to take any chances.
