Another post made me think of this question. Are you using anything special such as lead substitute or ???
I don't use lead substitute but do occasionally add a little Marvel Mystery Oil with the gas. Should I be doing more?
I've heard many different suggestions about this on various websites and most said not to worry as there is probably a lead build up from all the years of using leaded gas. (as long as no machining was done)
So what's the verdict?

Bob, I use a lead additive about every 3rd or 4th tank. That should be enough to take care of any problems.

Dont know the name off the top of my head bob but I've been useing a lead additive since I got mine on the road, 5 ounces for every 10 gal I think it is, supposed to be for off road use only (yeah right) aftrer working in a machine shop and seeing first hand what no-lead gas does to pre no- lead exaust seats I feel it's a must unless you go the hard seat way wich I will do when I build my GOOD engine. Does the additive work???? guess we'll find out as I've said before I pull a 42' trailer with my 348 with a GVW of 45,000lbs I have a pretty busy summer lined up so I will definatly be putting some miles on my old W.

We buy bulk gas here at work, and since we still run several old vehicles, we put a product named Valvtect in the whole batch. 1 gal. to 1000 gal. It turns the gas red. I've been running that in my 69 Bronco engine for about 20,000 miles after a valve job(very hard miles) with no trouble yet. Haven't had any seat failures in the ten years I've been here. Maybe the stuff does work? Maybe it's not needed, but better safe than sorry. NUT
In the past I've carried a bottle of additive with me and put some in on each fill up when out of town. It's just money right? :p

I use a product from CenPeCo (Central Petroleum Company) and it is a real lead additive. I've heard that the stuff you can buy at the parts stores is just sodium and really isn't good to use. The stuff I got comes in quart bottles and I put a half a bottle when I fill up. You can add more, it just depends on the octane rating you are shoting for.
