Does anyone have experience with using the Doug's Tri Y headers
currently in showcars catalog? For my application I am interested
in fit and performance. How do they fit with an original location of
the exhaust pipes in mind. My car is a 59 348.

I can't help on Doug headers, but I have real recent experience, (about 10 hours worth) of installing Ballangers. :cuss :bang :cuss :bang :cuss :bang :cuss
But once I fired the fresh engine for the first time with open headers.......sweet music.....my smile was glued to my ears, and my blood got 40 years younger. :cheers

I have that header on my 60 Impala. Fit is perfect, quality is A+. Uncorked sound is wicked! Matches stock position very well. Got mine from Curt Harvey, For my money that's where I'd buy!

I have a set of these headers on my 61. There were no problems with the fit. The collector ends a few inches past the frame rail in the same basic location as the factory exhaust pipe. I think you'll like them for a street vehicle.

The '59 has them, and they're nice - except the collector hangs down a bit. Not a nice sound to hear your collectors dragging because your car is rather low.

Thanks for the feedback. I am doing a frame off on my 59 348
and have already installed an Air Ride air spring system front
and back. I plan to run the car low. One of my concerns is what
threeimpalas mentioned and that was ground clearance and how far
the headers hang down. My intention was to hang the exhaust
system so it had a clean look of not hanging down so far.

I hope this gives you some idea of the clearance.

On the '59, the collectors are only a couple of inches off the ground (ie; 2", not 5-6"). It is because of this that I'm currently in the process of putting it on airbags at all 4 corners. Currently have the rear just about done, and have yet to start with the front. I think these cars look best LOW, but the goofy frame/exhaust design makes it tough to drive as such.
Other than that, it looks fairly clean. We're using small bullet style mufflers that tuck up under the floorpan, so the pipes themselves don't hang down like they do on most of these cars. The lowest part is actually the tail end of the header and collector. If the headers were designed to drop down about an inch or so less (vertically), it'd be much better.

thanks for the feedback fatride and 3I. I was thinking to get
around this problem would be to cut the flanges of the TriY's
and weld in the pipe. It looks like from the picture that
the flange is the problem for reducing clearance. Either that
or use Sanderson shorty headers.
