Hi Everyone,
I am wondering if anyone can tell me if the Pontiac bucket seats used from 62-65 are the same as the 62-65 Chevrolet bucket seats? Also, I know that the 65 seats have different brackets, but can you bolt up the 62-64 seat brackets to a 65 seat and make it work in a 62-64 car? I have a friend that bought a 64 SS and the buckets are for 62-64 fullsize GM but the bolsters on the seat bottom kind of point out more than they should. They are definetly NOT Chevy seats as the upholstery pattern isn't like anything offerd in an Impala SS car. I've noticed that the Chevrolet seats are more rounded and the Pontiac seats have more pointed front corners. The main concern is when he goes to recover the seats as he is going to use a kit from CARS. Any help would be great!

Hello Guru,

A couple of years ago I bought new seat foam from Lutty's for my '64 SS. The box had something on it about the foam being for a '62-'64 Impala SS and '63 or '64 Pontiac Grand Prix.

I saw a '63 Buick Wildcat sport coupe in a junkyard and the interior shared a lot of parts with the Impala SS (rear seat shape with speaker, rear armrests, window cranks and handles). The buckets looked exactly like SS seats (except upholstery) and had the same wrap-over chrome. I suspect the mounting brackets would be different like you said since the frames and probably the floors would be different.

Hey guys I cant really help out, but have been kind of curious about this myself. I have a pair of 65 SS buckets for the Biscayne (anyone have experience with this style bucket in a 60?) Im not sure what to do about brackets, would the earlier ones have a better fitting bracket for a '60? I just installed (cobbled) a pair of buckets in the 4 door this winter (believed to be mid 60s Buick Riviera) WHAT A NIGHTMARE!! granted I had to use Chevelle tracks for the driver side. These seats (even the framework) is WAY dfferent than my 65 seats, they even angle when tipped ahead, but not bad for $20. :cheers

Its late, and I cant get a pic to work.

Carl,

It sounds like you need the parts that weld to the floor for mounting the bucket seats.

I have no experience with the full size but I did a bucket seat conversion on my 72 Malibu 2 years ago. These parts are available in repro form for the Chevelles so maybe also for the full size cars. I managed to chop the small outer 2 brackets from the car I bought the seats out of but I bought the long inner brackets in repro. With the Chevelles, only 1 corner of the seat mount actually bolts to the floor. The other 3 corners need the brackets to either raise the track or provide a stud rather than a bolt.

Of course, you can't get them for a '60 because they didn't come with buckets but ones for a '65 would probably work since those are the seats you have.
