BBQ,
That's the way I read it, but on some date codes the I was not used. In this case this code would be November 8, 61.
GM did this because of confusion over the difference between and I or the number one. Maybe someone else has more expertice on this subject. Gary

Noooooooooo not November, December. L is the 12th letter in the alphabet.

Bungy is right on the cylinder heads, L is for December. But L is November on many other parts, check 'By the numbers". Gary

BBQ,
The whole name of the book is; "1960-64 Chevrolet by the numbers- the essential Chevrolet parts reference" by Alan L. Colvin. Worth it's weight in gold. I have seen copies on Ebay recently bidding at $20-30, but I don't have a source to just buy one. Perhaps someone knows a contact point to buy a copy of this soft cover book. Gary
