Hello everyone, I have a problem with my 1963 Chevy Impala . It has a 350 cid engine with an original 4-jet carb.

Ok, there's your problem right there. It should have a 409! LOL :D Naw, just kidding.

A couple things I can think of to check...

1) You really should check the float settings by measuring them. The float level is checked by removing the top and flipping it over so it's upside down. With the gasket still on, measure from the gasket surface to the highest part of the float. That is the float level setting. To adjust, bend the arm of the float.

Then turn it over so it's correct side up and measure from the gasket surface to the center seam on the float. That is the float drop setting. To adjust, bend the rear tab of the float arm. You'll need to get the proper settings by looking up the carb as all will vary. These come with carb rebuild kits so if your carb needs a rebuild, you might go this route.

2) While your in there, carefully look at the needle/seat. Make sure there is no damage or any micro specs of anything caught in there.

3) Lastly, check to be sure your not getting too much fuel pressure.

4) Heavy floats. Remove the floats and shake them to listen for any liquid inside them.

These last two are a last resort. If this problem only occurs since the warm weather, it's probably the float level setting too high. The heat makes the fuel boil over.

Well that's my thoughts. Lets see what the others say.... :)
