AHAH !!!
Just got my custom made Spool today.
Machined on a "4 series" format from high strength steel stock... then heat treated. Uses my 30 spline axles.
Just wanted to say.... it's VERY cool !!!!! And obviously will not give me problems :beerbang :cheers :deal
I forgot my camera at Lee Brothers the other day... I'll take a photo and post it as soon as I can.

Aubrey, you must be living on Ramen noodles with all that money your '62 is demanding of you. :D Should we send a pizza or something? ;)

Bob, the whole pizza would be great, but I'd settle for the crust.
On a positive note, I should end up losing a little weight for drag racing :clap

Lose weight for drag race season, Now there is a thought.
Naaaa, I think it's easier to lighten the bumper brackets.
P,S, send the rest of the pizza here..

That's heavy duty stuff - something you can count on and some peace of mind.

Yes TM, that's the idea. With all the other upgrades that I did to the rear, the posi unit itself ends up being the weak link... and they are too difficult to locate and too valuable to waste in an abusive environment such as this. Not to mention, a "4 series" posi unit is absolutely non-existant in Canada :( .

You have wisely done your build with extra attention to the most critical components from the beginning and it sets a good example. Not to sound too philosphical, but at the track the thing that scares me the worst is the person next to me that has slapped their car together. It's okay to economize in non-critical places, but when it's you and your car and the racer next to you and their car at stake, a few extra dollars now even if it means waiting can save everybody from a potential catastrophic failure.

Ah yes, that's the secret. I still have torn seats and worn, chipped, faded old paint ;)

Here's my rear end pumpkin all assembled...
It's a restored 1961 housing with my bearing cap girdles, 30 spline spool, with new Zoom 5.13 gears.

Yes DQ, I can supply this entire setup. The spool is really uncomfortable for driving around though. It's surprising just how much "slipping" a differential has to do... even in the slightest turn.

You're right, Aubrey. The inside tire slips bad with a spool. That spool is a little different than the "spool" we used to run. A cheap positraction was easy to do. All you did was take an open rear end, and weld the spiders together. Now you had a "spool"!!!!!!!!!!!!!!! Made a lot of noise at the local drive-ins. Any turn brought a lot of squeal from the inside tire. Very evident what was there. I'd say it was cheaper than your spool. Probably not quite as dependable, though. When one of those broke loose, it made a big mess of all the gears, and generally the housing, too.
But is was cheap!

Trouble with that, Fred.... the spider gear shaft is the weak link... and that's what you weld to...
Also.... STRICTLY prohibited by all sanctioning bodies :doh
Yes Jester... JUST like that :deal :D
