Anybody have a pretty good idea what a bare block and heads are going for today? I'm thinking $400.00 for a block, and maybe
$800-1000 for 690 or 583 heads.

am I out of touch,or about right?

Fred,
a truck block ?
Yes, that would be about right for a bare block. Car block will be double that... especially a 62 casting. 1965 and all other 3857656 blocks will be a touch cheaper.
That would be low end "good deal" price on 690's. Unreasonably low for 583's.

Aubrey, are 583 heads worth more money because they were only built in 64-65 :dunno

Now that I think about it,about 15 years ago I had a pair 690's with matching # for sale at a swap meet for $800.This guy come's up and say's oooh these aren't the 690's I want and walks away.I thought to myself what hell was he talking about do they make a better 690 head? :? :dunno

Aubrey,Thanks now I think I know what this guy was talking about he wanted 583 heads. To this date anytime I here about 690 heads for sale this story pop's up in my head :dunno This solves the mystery no more nightmares tonight I can sleep well :) :)

By the way the guy came back later and talk's me down to $700 :deal I woud sell a pair a 690's for $1,500 and come down to $1,400 nothing less

Aubrey:

Why would the 1962 block be worth more? Just asking. And I guess looking :)

I have a 1963 QB block bored .060" over that has one sleeve in it, and I gave $600 for it. Maybe a little high, but I wanted it.

I also have a 1962 QB block in terrible condition (needs 3 or more sleeves, maybe all eight) that I gave $300 for.

I gave $500 for a pair of 690s and $500 for a pair of 583s, same guy. They are not "matched pairs". He has a few more sets, but won't part with them. I keep asking :)

Hope that adds to the mix a bit.

Cheers,
TomK
