Yesterday I saw a commercial on TV, one of those lawyer ads and it mentioned that welding fumes can cause Parkinsons disease! Having spent most of this summer welding, it's a bit scary.

Anyone else hear this? Concerns?

While I don't sit there puffing on the fumes as if I were toking up a Salem :D it's hard not to get a whiff once in a while. What can one do to protect oneself? It's enough of a pain in the rear having to put the gloves on, helmet on, etc about a hundred times without having to wear a respirator too.

Yes, that's been around awhile but the operative words are "may cause".

Like cigarettes, "may cause cancer".

And remember , it came out of the mouth of a lawyer !

Haven't heard anything about that, but I went in for an MRI on my knee and they asked if I welded. The magnetic field is so strong that any little bits of metal embedded in your skin get ripped right out. Ouch.
