For some reason, it seems I have to do things about 3 times until they are finished! (1 step forward, 2 steps back)
I recently painted the roof, trunk lid w/jam, and tops of the quarters of my '63 and after much time spent not only on body work, prep, primer, sanding, painting but also wet sanding, polishing and buffing, (whew) I had it lookin' real good as shown below.
What happened? Here's the tip: Do not cut or grind metal anywhere near a car. This car is 8'-10' from my outdoor workbench and the other day, I was cutting some sheetmetal with a cut off wheel and doing some grinding on body panels of my project 71 C-20.
The wind must have carried some of the metal dust and it settled on the car. Then the rains came. We have had alot of rain here lately so all the dust turned to rust and left brown speckles all over the trunk and flat surfaces of the quarters. :cuss (as well as berry's falling from the trees and staining the white paint!-I think black would be easier to take care of!)
The only good thing is it is fixable and I already cleaned and lightly wetsanded, then polished with fine cut cleaner. This seems to have removed almost all the problems.
So keep the parked cars far away from your work area. Covering them is a good idea too. I'll be adding this to the tips/tricks page too.
