For some reason, it seems I have to do things about 3 times until they are finished! (1 step forward, 2 steps back)

I recently painted the roof, trunk lid w/jam, and tops of the quarters of my '63 and after much time spent not only on body work, prep, primer, sanding, painting but also wet sanding, polishing and buffing, (whew) I had it lookin' real good as shown below.

What happened? Here's the tip: Do not cut or grind metal anywhere near a car. This car is 8'-10' from my outdoor workbench and the other day, I was cutting some sheetmetal with a cut off wheel and doing some grinding on body panels of my project 71 C-20.

The wind must have carried some of the metal dust and it settled on the car. Then the rains came. We have had alot of rain here lately so all the dust turned to rust and left brown speckles all over the trunk and flat surfaces of the quarters. :cuss (as well as berry's falling from the trees and staining the white paint!-I think black would be easier to take care of!)

The only good thing is it is fixable and I already cleaned and lightly wetsanded, then polished with fine cut cleaner. This seems to have removed almost all the problems.

So keep the parked cars far away from your work area. Covering them is a good idea too. I'll be adding this to the tips/tricks page too.

Bob,you can also add glass to the tip.I was grinding my roll cage in the 57 and the same thing happened to me on my windshield. You can't wetsand those out you have to replace the windshield :doh I used carboard to cover glass in my grinding area now.

I hear ya. I did the same thing with welding spatters on the back glass of my truck. They burn right into the glass and there is no fixin' that!

Cover everything when welding and grinding. It's so easy to overlook.

I just got in from doing the final buffing with glaze and all is well again. I think I removed another layer of paint through all of this. Good thing I put some extra on when I sprayed it. (and extra, extra on all the edges)

I've got lots of torch pits in the windows of my Bronco. But because of the way I abuse that, I haven't bothered fixing them. I did learn from it though. That was about 15 years ago! NUT
p.s. Bob, I was thinking Your 63 was a 4 dr? I guess it was just the 283 I was thinking about :dunno Anyway Nice car! Didn't they put 409s in 63s and 396s in Chevelles? :scratch ;) NUT
