I think this was taken at Super Chevy at Bandimere around 1996 or so.

Note the spoiler. I can't tell if there is a lip around the edges, but if not it really wouldn't create much downforce. Also no spill plates. Interesting how ideas develop.

What's a spill plate?

My old race car. Brought tears to my eyes.

The spill plates keep air from spilling off the side edges and forces it to pass over the wing and into the angled lip the second arrow points to, creating downforce. It doesn't look like much, but that wing really made a BIG difference.

To all of those Dyno Fans, we must keep him in our prayers. We were racing Sunday a week ago, at the York reunion race, and had a great time. The down side of the day was talking to friends of ours who know Dyno personally. One of them was out to CA recently, and spent some time with Dyno. They said he was having more trouble with his health, and is showing some real aging. They relayed to me that his memory was getting pretty bad, also.

Let me add that the spill plates also keep air from curling under the wing and causing lift. They also act sort of like rudders and help the car go straight. Honest, as small as the actual surfaces are, it does work well.
