Hello to all!! I am writing this post for help from anyone of my fellow 409ers who has had good, bad or otherwise experience with Carter Carburators, used on 409s from the 60s. (I want to stay as original to date correct as I can) Is what I would like to ask is what cfm would work well for street use on my 409 with the M/T cross ram daul carb. I am some where in the neighborhood of 475-500 HP. @ the flywheel. What would be the least cfm and the largest cfm I would want to use? (excample from 400 cfm? to 625?) Thanks for any and all of your Help!! Bill

Bill,I've run Carter AFB 600 CFM on my M/T cross ram for 20 years with no problems :D
No need to run orginal carbs Just get two carbs that are the same.Get carbs that have electric chokes remove the choke assy off the carb that you install on the drivers side. Also run your distributor vacuum advance and trans vacuum off the rear of this carb. The right carb run your electric choke to ign swich wire and run your pcv off this carb.
If you have any more questions I'll be glad to help :)

I put at 625 Carter, then a 600 Holley, then the stock QJ on my wifes L-82 Vette. It was a CONSISTANT car, very repeatable. All ran within a tenth, and the CArter ran best on the street. Frankly I like Carters.
