Greetings!!!!
I'm finally back after a 2 month absence!!! This spring and summer have been incredibly busy with all kinds of projects. Bought alot of parts...have one that I will post shortly that may interest Fran from a post long time ago.
Anyway.....things are proceeding nicely with the convention. We are trying to make this experience a memorable one for all!! We have delivered the engine parts over to Tony's shop for the 474" stroker motor (right? Aubrey!!). I found an NOS truck block that we are using as a basis for building this engine. Doug Thorley has kindly donated a set of ceramic headers for this engine. And we just got in a set of pistons that we bought from Aubrey. We'll see what Tony can get from this combo!!!!
We have busses rented to get us to Tony's machine shop for the dyno exhibition runs on Thursday. My wife has a bus for the ladies to take them to our small town of Parkville on Thursday also, for a day of shopping and great restaurants. Course, Friday will be the big day with the car show at KCI Expo Center. Plans and "other projects" are coming together for the "program" after the banquet Friday evening. We've met with the promoters of KCIR and have come up with a plan of activities for Saturday at the races.
Now...I am asking for your help. I have two major "decisions" ahead of me right away. I don't have a clue of how many are coming!!! We'd had some registrations so far but not like I thought. My first, and most important number that I need is.....I am having 2 projects made for each participant that registers....both are fairly expensive. One will be included in the registration packet and the other will be for sale. But I'm at a loss for quantities to have manufactured. I don't want anyone to be left out but can't afford to have a whole bunch left over either. The other "big number" I have to come up with is the number of banquet meals to tell the caterer. If I tell him to plan on 500 and only 200 show up....guess who gets to eat left overs for the next year and a half!!! Conversely, if I tell them 200 and 500 show up, alot of people are going to have to eat at Ruby Tuesdays across the interstate!! Plus...right now alot of money is going out...kinda like water down the Missouri River in the great flood of 93!!!!
So, for those of you who are coming, it benefit me greatly if you could go ahead and send in your registration. The form can be down loaded off the website or if you want me to mail you one, email me your address at philreed@sound.net and I will mail you a copy. By sending in your registration now, instead of waiting until Wed., Sept. 15th, it will give me a much better idea of the expected attendence. In case you don't have the website address, it is www.348-409natlconv.com. I have heard that PayPal wasn't working properly on the website but it should be fixed now. Please let me know if it is not.
There will be several cars here not completed, so don't let that keep you from bringing your car anyway. One of those unfinished cars will be a complete 1963 Z-11 rolling chassis. The body won't be on the frame but the engine is in and running and will be started occasionally. The important part is to be here.....not that you car is not perfect enough!! I will try to post a link next week of all the Z-11 cars and "notable" persons who are expected to be here. I have a few more calls to make and will get that posted as soon as I can. I want to try to give you an idea of who is coming!!!!
Now...I guess the last thing I have to decide is....do I order 400 T-shirts ......or 800???!!!! Bob...any suggestions on that!!!!
Drop me a line if you have any questions or thoughts. OH...when you register....I don't have a place on the registration form for this, put down your 348-409.com forum name. We will have that printed on your name tags too along with your "real" name.
I'm blown away by the fact that there are 4 guys flying from Norway to be here for our party!!! I'm going to answer them in the other thread but I just can't get over the fact that they are doing this!!! We sure can't let them down, can we????!!!!
Later,
Phil
