Since Fred, Richard and Fran met up and told their adventures not long ago, I thought I'd mention that the 2 of Pennsylvania's "409 guys" finally met up yesterday. Ned "65impala409" and myself finally met up and had an adventure of our own. While we didn't get pulled over by the cops or anything glamorous like some guys around here did, ;) it was a full day of "shop talk" and nothing but Chevy's!
Now I can't give any of the top secret info but I can say that we went to a "secret" junkyard that has cars/trucks from the 30's and up with the majority being 57 to 66 and mostly Chevy's. I got to see my first "junkyard" 348 but unfortunately, it's not much more that a door stop now! Sitting with no hood, no intake and one head off, mother nature did a hurtin' on it. Speaking of hurting, I could barely move this morning from the walking!!! :D And boy was it HOT! I weighed myself when I got home and I lost 5 pounds in one day!
I saw so many 58-66 cars that my head is still spinning. If I close my eyes, I see Chevy's!
And I got to see Neds '65 Impala 409 and she's sweet! A California car, original 340hp 409 car with 4 speed, Ermine white with a black office, 1 owner car! As a bonus to that and something no one knew about including myself is a '65 Belair 4 door sitting right next to it. Don't under estimate those 4 door Belair cars because when they look as good as this one does, nobody counts doors anymore!
We're gonna have to get our cars together for a "photo shoot" soon and show you guys our toys. :D
Now, I also have to mention that because of this meeting, I will now be adding the 7th car to my collection! It's a 1966 Impala 327/pg 2dr hardtop. I'm taking it off of Neds hands and finally going to fullfill that childhood dream of mine of one day owning a '66 Impala. It's been in the back of my mind for more than 25 years. Why 1966? I'm not sure, just love the look I guess. Or maybe because I was born in '66? Maybe I watched "Dirty Mary, Crazy Larry" too many times? :D Stay tuned for photo's of this car hopefully early next week.
Well, that's just the highlights of the day. :D I hope that some of you other guys get to meet up with other members too. Share a few favorite junkyards, trade a few parts and talk Chevy's. It's what this hobby is all about. :cheers
