rob,Welcome aboard we have bock casting # on this site I did search on your block #3732811 and did not find it listed.

I did find your block # in Show Cars parts catalog and it list it like this 3732811-58-early the next block # they list is 3751872-58-all.Im no expert but I think you have one of the first series of blocks made.Check your dated casted be worth some $$$$$

This proves Alan Colvin's information is not always reliable. Colvin states on pg 53 in his book CBTN that block #3751872...."This is the first 348 block ever cast."

Does it prove he's wrong or does it prove he's right? :? Where did showcars get their numbers from?

Maybe someone here has these blocks and can set us straight.

That last link is a copy from my old website word for word. Looks like someone "borrowed" it.

I used to have all the numbers that show cars list on site but when some didn't jive with other sources, I ommited any I was not sure of.

I noticed the wording. Shame some people do that

But on the 348 block

I happen to have a pair of the 3732791 heads that are the first design :)
Along with 2 3751872 blocks 3 3755011
1 pair 3732791
4 pair 3758379

anyone have some 3795586 3781147 that they want to sell?

rob, date code J1657 was cast in Oct-16-57.The 348 was introduced in Oct 57 so it looks like you have one of the first blocks cast.Maybe someone out there knows the first one to come off the assy line?Do have the complete 348 and car or just the block?

I just added 3732811 to the database as the "first" block. Currently, I have it listed as having no cooling holes. I also have block 3751872 listed as having no cooling holes. Is that correct? If not, let me know and I can make changes. :)
