Phil, I plan on being there Tues or Weds. If all goes wll I will be caravaning with Garbageman and his wife Sandy and leaving on Sat.
I repete,,,,,if all goes well !!
I can`t believe all the things that are happening to hold me up !
It has been one thing after another for the past several weeks.
It has taken every ounce of my patience and the stress level is beyond what I could imagine .
Between the house projects that needed to be done before I leave and the problems I`ve had with the new Blazer it seems every time I turn around something is going wrong to hold me up.
Yesterday my welder friend was to install the new hitch and track bar and have it ready this morning but didn`t get it done.
When I went there first thing today he let me know it would be ready at noon.
I got there about 1 pm to find him with his head wrapped in a bandage.
Seems the drill bit caught and the drill smacked him it his jaw and ripped a gash that should have had stiches and never got to do the track bar.
I also ordered a trailer brake control over the phone from a place across town but when I went to pick it up a Honda car had a head on with a truck that flipped and took out several power poles on either side of the shop.
Needless to say there was no access from either direction for several hours.
I did get it but lost all that time to get it installed.
On the way home I meet a friend at the local watering hole before I planned to head to the shop to install the final parts to finish the Blazer.
Wellllllllll,,,, This was about 6 PM,,,,,
At about 7 or so a guy was shot in the head and killed out side the bar on the side street, not related to the bar or patrons inside. And like a good citizen I stuck around as ever one else other then about six of us left like locus fleeing the desert !!
Big mistake !!! They just let us go and it is now 2 AM !!!
dq`s big adventure !!!
All I can say is I`ll be one happy camper once I hit the road and leave this all behind for the next week !!!
Kansas City here I come !!! Ready or NOT !!!!
The `62 has been ready for the past month so no problems there !!
I`ve been ready for the past year !!So no problems there !
And by tomorrow night the Blazer will be ready !!
So look out America !! dq is headed your way !!!
Get the HELL out of my way !!! Cause nothing,,, I meam NOTHING is going to stop me from getting there !!!
Hell or high water ,,,,,, I`ll coming !!!!! ,,,, dq :D

Things are looking better here. I usually don't plant the winter wheat crop until mid Sept. which would leave me out of making it to KC. But I started early this year, started yesterday. If I can get another 500 acres in before Tues, I plan on coming.
I don't know yet if I will bring the car. The body shop did not have time this summer to get it painted. So it has a primered trunk and previous bondo falling off and I left the inner fenders out for easier removal of the chrome and emblems.
Anyway, if all goes well, I will come. I cancelled my hotel reservations in back in July thinking that I could not go because of fall seeding. I will have to call back again or try one of the other motels.
HOPE to see every one next week!
Ron

Let's see, Blazer suspension iffy, welder injured while working on Blazer, major accident delays you at the parts house, and then when trying to relax shots rang out.
DQ. Sandy and I are rereading our insurance policies and I trying to figure out if you shouldn't trail us by a couple of hundred miles on the our way to KC. Just to create a bit of a buffer zone between us and the luck you are having.
I'll call you later today.

Garbageman... You're in trouble, because just north of you, on the Trans Canada highway, I'll be travelling with my luck. If you guys leave early enough though, I'll be behind you, because I have to go to Winnipeg to get my spool from my brother's car, and re-install the pumpkin in my car ( I had disassembled my car and sent him the spool so he could run in a "fastest street car" meet last week. Results ? 6 rounds of eliminations truning 10 flat @ 137... final round with a 9.80 @ 140... and a big trophy ! .... Oh, did I mention... no 9 inch in THAT car :takethat :p )
DQ, that's HORRIFIC  . Let's get together in Kansas, and put this past couple weeks behind us :beerbang :cheers

I guess its about time I put in my two cents worth,Phil.Unfortunately I won't be able to make it to the convention a big house project got in the way.I promised the wife a "real house" before the end of this year so am making good on my promise and it's taking all my extra money.I'm hoping this won't be the only 348-409 convention and that another can be planned for next year or the year after so I can attend. My original plan was to drive to CPG's place of business in Canada and pick up the 348 punched and stroked to 427 and then drive over to Aaron Hufnagle's place(348 Nut) then we would travel to the convention together but that plan has fallen by the wayside.I'm hoping at least somebody will be selling videos of the convention and some of the racing so I can buy a tape. Here's hoping everyone a great time. Well the GOOD news is I`m ready and going to meet up with Garbageman in a few hours!
Not a big caravan but will be fun to have company.
A couple shots of the set-up and I`m really pleased on how well it handles with the new air bag set-up under the rear,,,,,,, dq

Take it easy with that special cargo DQ, keep the shiny side up. Things will be quiet around here with all you guys away but we'll keep a light on. :cheers

I feel like I've been on an episode of Overhauling or Monster garage and the time has come to drop the tools. So ready or not it's time to pack her up and get going. We've got a box trailer for the car. I figured we could pay for it with the money we saved on gas by not driving the 409. :D :rofl We're hoping to get away in time to get to KC on Tuesday. I put a 409 emblem on the back of the trailer with black tape. :deal So be sure and honk when you go by.

Hey Danny... There's still an empty seat in my truck :deal !
I'm loaded... well, you know what I mean :p
Here's my unit ( I feel like a homeless guy compared to Jim ;) )
I'll be leaving in the morning, going to Winnipeg... although, I've been looking at the weather forecasts, and it's not good in the Brandon area. I'm not real interested in an other "soak-down-mud-fest" like I had when I went to Calgary a couple weeks ago. If it looks rotton, I may delay going through the area until Tuesday morning. I have to spend part of a day putting the rear end back together in the BelAir anyhow. Plan is to be in Kansas mid day on Thursday. I'm booked for Thurday, Friday, and Saturday nights.

I'll be leaving here Wednasday sometime with the whole family (6 of us) in my extended cab and the 55 on the trailer. Will drop off the family in Minneapolis and if things go well and I'm feeling crazy ;) I will unload the 55 and drive it the rest of the way after some sleep and arive around noon or so on Thursday. I've got Aubrey's cell number, so If I break down he might have to dump the 62 and come and get me! :brow When you guys see my car you will definitely KNOW I'm NUTS! But I love an adventure :p See you soon, NUT

Finally, FINALLY, I have the old car back together again. Thought I ought to tighten up the top end for this trip. Was going to do more, but ran out of time, and deliveries didn't happen like I wanted, but that is alright. Just got her fired up, timing set, 1/2 tank of Nitro----------ooooopppppppppsssssssssss skip that part, sounds bitchin. :brow Wanted to get some cutouts made, but no time left. Might do that over in KC. Phil, you know any good muffler shops that know how to do that? Wanted to get some slicks and wheels, too. That didn't happen. So, street tires is it. Unless I get lucky. Gonna load up in an hour or so. Got my new drive shaft, today. No time to put it in. Gonna bring it with me. Maybe do it over there. Wouldn't be the first time I had it on jack stands at a track. Might bring some other spare parts. I have another Posi unit and case. Arma steel, too.
Bob, you aren't going to have any messages to monitor. Might as well come!
Well, got to get washing done so I have some clothes. Phil, do we need a tux at the banquet?????????????? :rofl If I need a suit, better holler before 7AM tomorrow.
Trying to find my registration papers. Put them someplace I would remember :doh Hope I find them.
Got to get back to work.
Later

You sure are cutting things close Fred! Your making me nervous! :D
Ya know, I didn't realize most of you are trailering your cars. That in itself is gonna be a sight seeing all those beautiful old Chevy's coming down the interstates on trailers! Somehow, I pictured everyone driving their cars but I certainly don't blame ya's especially since alot of you will be racing them. (guess I didn't think that one through)
Hoping to see some pics... (hint, hint) ;)
Have a good time everyone. :cheers

As of yet, still undecided. Would be early Friday morning if we do go. I'm at Iowa State in Ames (living in an apt., unfortunately). My real home - where the cars are - is 40 miles to the east in Marshalltown.
