Hello Nufsed
I like those 53's
Going to be tough to get 348-409 in unless you put one of those bolt in cross members to use pinto sup. those work great.Need to get the steering shaft out the way.
You see Nova, and Camaro front ends,But the are really to wide on tread width.
Look like tires rub outside of fenders.
I have heared the later monte carlo, and cutless are a little narrow. I have also
been told you should not weld on the 54 and back frames, something about the way they was temper.
Would be a cool ride,Hope you get done!
If you need any help, someone will jump in and help,Don't be bashfull and jump in if you have exper. on something.

I have not heard that I will have any trouble with putting in a 348 yet. But then, I haven't talked to many that have done it. The other problem is that I am wanting to do everything retro. I don't want anything on the car newer than like 1962. So I want to use the original front end (no rack and pinion, no power steering--I know, I'm crazy). If I use anything that the car did not come with, it will be from another older vehicle (before 1962). Thank you for the heads up. I may need to do a little research first. :?

Nothing wrong with "Old School"! There's a way around everything so I'm sure you'll find a way to shoe horn that 348 in.

Good
I like making everthing my self.
I put a SM BLOCK in a 52 way back, and it is tough on left side ex manifold.
What i did on a 53 pickup is put a 55 rear in then line eng on it. they are off set about 2.1/2 to 3 in move eng. line up in line and no problem with ex. Old six back then were center in frame. All rear wheel drive I know from 55 up are offset.
Chry. products are about 4 in.
Measure tread center to center on 61 to 64 Chevy more modern streering box in front.
Just some Idea's I have never had anything good enought to keep all org.
plus If I want to drive to west coast I can. I put 10000. on my 55 a yr.

Maybe I should post this as a question on the board to get some ideas. So, are you saying that I should use the front end from a 61-64 full size? I know it's possible to put a regular big block in one of these. I'm sure it's no easy task but I know it can be done.

You nead to measure tread width First, on 59- 64 First and compare to yours.
Those cars DO NOT look right if tread width gets to wide .
