This winter I plan to finally put a 409 crank into one of my 348 blocks. I've installed the crank and everything clears fine. I purchased pistons especially for this application from Aubrey which require BB rods. Will use some 817 heads and an aluminum factory 348 4 barrel intake with an AFB clone. Aubrey also has a cam that he recommends for this application. Only about 380+ cubes but it beats having to turn down/rebalance a BB crank.

I'm planning on stroking a 348 using a 409 crank. You do not need to do any machining to fit the block. You do need to buy pistons to clear the counter weights. I believe stock type forged will clear but those would require 409 rods. I feel the better way is to use custom pistons such as those from A Bruneau Performance, with a pin height that allows the use of bbc rods which are a good insurance policy as I understand! :deal You can get pistons from +.010 to + .125. With everybody putting bbc cranks in their 409s, stock cranks should be available. You can go as mild or wild as you want with this combo. NUT
