Introed quite a while back, hadnt had many questions til now. I am assembling my 58 348 and ran into a couple small questions tonight (missing hardware).

What size is the balancer bolt hole in the crank?

I am using the stock cannister filter, I have the aluminum piece that bolts to the block as well as the cannister. What is correct for the 2 bolts that hold the Aluminum adaptor on? !/4 by what?

Also, any good pics on how this al piece sets in the block?

Now that I am into the mill, I hope to post here more. For those that care, this is in an early 60s style 27 Ford Touring. I am about 2 weekends from driving this car, I need to rub out a little paint, wire it and drop teh motor and tranny in the hole. Not really a full bodied 60s car like most here drive but I THINK most will dig it, not real cars were hurt in this build, I got the motor after it had been plucked from some unknown car.

Anyway, thanks for any info in advance! Trent

Trent,If you have threads in your crank it should be the same as a small block 7/16 x 20 x 2 1/2 you can get damper bolts and washer from your parts store that sell's Mr Gasket or Moroso products.

Your bolts on your oil filter alum adaptor are 1/4" n/c I don't know the length but try installing your adaptor to your block and measure the depth from the bottom of the 1/4 " hole to the top of your adaptor with welding rod or screwdriver and that should give you the length

Thank you VERY much! I found out that info out locally but the oil filter adapter bolts are still an unknown. Luckily, I am not in a bind!

There is at least one bolt near the aluminum plate that, if you use too long a bolt, it will gouge into the plate and cause oiling problems. I think it's a bellhousing bolt. I know this was not in your original question, but the previous owner on my engine did this and I had to rebuild again as a result.

If you have a bolt for the dampner then someone drilled it. The 58 dampner was a press fit and no bolt was used. So if it has a bolt hole I would find out for sure tread size and depth before I put it together. also I have not had any luck with oil filter adapters. I still use canister. The adapters that I have tried allow oil to bypass filter. Just my 2 cents worth. Roy

hmmmm, I TAPPED out what APPEARED to be a broken bolt? My block is 58, dont know about the crank!
Went 7/16-20 and did a fine job with the tap if I may say so!

As for the filter, I AM using the cannister. I found that 1/4-20 x 1 1/2? was right if memory serves me.

My local W motor pal advised me to use the Cannister, so that is what I did.

Thanks.
