I am working on building a 348 with 3 - 2's , the rods in the 348 look weak, will the rods from the 396/454 work? What needs to be done to them? I also have a set of Alm rods what would be the best?

Yes Robert, any standard length big block Chevy rod IS superior to the factory 348 rod, and SHOULD be used if at all possible. When you order your pistons, simply specify that you are using a 6.135" length rather than 6.125". The pin height will be adjusted accordingly, and to establish the piston/deck height that you require.

If you are not doing this engine on a strict budget... which your question about aluminum rods would suggest... then I would HIGHLY recommend the use of a 3.76" stroke BBC crankshaft.
