I have a set of Scorpion roller rockers on my 409 and it appears that the dripper valve covers are going to hit. Is it necessary to replace them with aluminum covers. I have looked at both the Moon and Offenhauser. Anyone have either and is one taller than the other.

I had a 3/8 spacer made for my valve covers. this raises them enough to clear the drippers. No way was I going to cut the drippers! I'm thinking there was someone that was making them. Maybe Lamar? Someone else know?

You could also buy a set of stock non-dripper valve covers. Rollers don't need drippers, right?!

You are right. Roller Rockers don't need drippers. A good set of covers without drippers, can usually be found cheaper than the drippers. Then just get them chromed. Don't worry too much about small dings, the plater ( at least around here ) will work them out.

I'll trade a pair of non drippers for a pair of drippers. :D

Is it just the drippers that are close? Mine look and feel like the rockers themselves are very close to the actual valve cover. I have screw in studs that have been raised up somewhat and the cam has a lot of lift. Does anyone know if there is any difference in the height of the Offys and the Moons?

I know for fact the the stock valve covers that I have won`t fit over the Scorpion rollers. CPG I think had a set that would however.
I`m running the Moon style covers and they fit very well.,,, Don`t know about the Offy`s though,,,,dq

Thanks dg, I knew you had the aluminum but didn't know which ones. I guess I can always sell my chrome drippers on ebay for enough to pay for the Moons. Best price I have seen for the Moons is $265. I'm going to put the old 409 on the dyno this week or next and see what she will do. All I have done is gone through the engine and bored it .30 over and put in a hyd. roller, screw in studs and roller rockers. I figure it will maybe make 450. I'll try to get a print of the graph from the computer when I make the run and post it.

I have a set of scorpion rocker arms and non dripper covers and a 560 lift cam and they clear ok. It must be the screw in studs that is causing the problem ?? I think show cars has the valve cover spacers.

I also forgot to add Lamar has a set of great looking valve covers that are 1.5 inches taller than stock. you can see them in the posting about the blower in this forum.

Everyone should notice and appreciate, DQ has all this stuff in his garage. At least I think that's the way it is. Sure wish I had some of it. Would love to get a set of aluminum heads. The Z-11 style. Just don't have the beans to do it. Maynbe next life!

i have the offenhouser's and they fit fine, offy's or moon should work for you, they are approx. 1/2" taller, and dont have drippers.
