6 cyl and V-8 starters the same?

Is a 6 cylinder starter the same as a small V-8? Would either bolt up and work the same? Not interested in "numbers correct" or anything like that as this is only needed for a fix-er-upper truck I have.

Bob the block mounted starters have 2 bolt pattern's , straight for the small flywheels and staggered for the larger ones
