Well the old girl is in the shop. I decided to go with a tap in the collector 3" to 40 series turbo-flow mufflers. 2.5" to exit at the sides of the rear bumper. Does anyone Know where the best place to locate the muffler is? Has anyone move them from there original place under the front floor to between the trunk well and the inner fender? (64 Biscayne, 425 hp)
I had the mufflers placed under the rear foot well. I think that that is the same location where resinators were installed from the factory. IN THEORY that I tend to belive in says to place the mufflers as far back in the system as possible. Placing the muffler back in the system allows the exhaust cool and decrease in volume thus decreaseing back pressure. IN PRACTICE this has been confirmed in several articles written by a guy by the name of Jim Hand. The articles are on the net. If you are using flow masters I belive that they want the muffler installed 20" or so from the collector (give flow master a call to confirm.)

That's what i thought. There going in after the rear axle. the work is already started and it's to late to change now. The up side to having them back there is if , for some reason I want to change the muffler , all I need to change is a very short tail pipe. Thanks for the help
