Is anyone aware of any mechanical fuel injection made for the 409 other than the algon unit. Someone recently told us of two hilborn units for sale, but has been unable to locate the ad.

Another source is Arizona speed and marine www.azspeed.com I have talked to these guys about doing injection on a 409 and they will have to have a stock manifold to drill and insert the injectors into. They also will set up the engine with crank trigger ignition if one is inclined to go in that direction. I wonder if Lamar has done any fuel injection on these W engines?

Thanks for the info. We were wondering if there existed any vintage units besides the Algon. It sounds like not. We drag race two NSS '62 Bel-Airs w/ 409's, and thought about making one stack injection if we could locate a good intake.

2 hard running 09s that make us 09 owners proud. The wully Bully cars and the Blue Screamer are some cars that you should all see run. They will bring tears to the eyes of any old 09 racers. I have watched them and talked to them. Just wish I could join them. What a thrill that would be. Only bad thing is they are SO MUCH OLDER than me!

Yes, sort of. My father-in-law is the original "Wully Bully". I now drive the sedan body that runs 10.60's, he drives the bubbletop in the 10.10's. We are still trying to get the bubbletop in the 9's, which is where the stack injection comes in (maybe). It is real hard getting 690 head motors to turn those numbers, but we keep trying. Fred, as far as age, I am only 32!

Steve, I might have made a slight mistake as you are concerned. I was 29 when you were born. I was racing these things 7 years before that! Hey, we met at Indy a couple times. Probably talked to your father-in-law more. Talked to Allen a lot. Do you think the injection will make that much diference? Still on gas? Most of the guys that went to injection way back went to Alky or Nitro, too. Hope you make it to the nines. I think I have heard Lamar has done it, but with some pretty exotic parts! Good Luck

Why would this system need a crank trigger setup, when it can be done through a distributor with the correct feedback module? I'm doing two right now, one for a TPI engine in an early Corvette and stock mechanical tach, and the other for a Swedish Volvo factory EFI tech whom is going back to Sweden in mid-June, for his 425 Nailhead Buick engine (Holley Commander 950 unit). Have done same for a few other setups.

As far as port nozzles, the intake manifold shouldn't be a dual plane design, but one of those didn't work single plane models on the top shelf of the garage. Why, well, because air flow/velocity isn't the determining factor with EFI, especially port EFI. It is duty cycle, time/volume of fuel injected. If the nozzles in a setup will only flow the engine to 5,000 rpms and 7/8ths throttle opening, no amount of further throttle opening will allow the engine to rpm past that duty cycle fuel flow rate.

Drying up the air flow in a dual plane intake manifold can cause issues better avioded, but single plane intakes don't seem to have those issues when EFI'd.

On my next all aluminum Vega engine, it will be a Rover 4.6 block, Austrialian P76 crank (if it ever gets here), small journal 327 Chevy H beem rods, 305 Chevy pistons, etc. The EFI I am using now is a Holley 2bbl analog system, The new engine will use a Rover EFI intake manifold, with top modified to take a Z28 TPI tjhrottle body, bored .200 per side, and Mustang 19 lb/hr nozzles, in each port, using the same TBI analog driver used with the system now. One side of the TB will power 4 nozzles on one side of the intake, the other, the reminaing 4. I'll still have all my adjustments for the system easly at reach in the passenger cabin.
