If it fits the 409 it will fit the 348.

How hard are you going to spin engine?

Why mess with the stock damper? A low performance small block damper (GM 6272221) can be ordered at your local Chevy dealer and can be spun to 6000 rpm on a regular basis.;)

Punch in this guys name or Co. name on the search thingy. See if the Co. name comes up. Any Co. worth it's salt will have a web site. Remember you get what you pay for! And you can't beat GMs engieering and quality:D

Someone will corect me if I'm wrong on this but the timing mark on a smallblock damper is out by 10 deg. when compared to a 348/409 damper. This isn't much of a problem as long as you're aware of it. You might also want to check to see if the 6 3/4" damper will clear the timing tab because I think 348 dampers were about 6", high performance 409 dampers were about 7". Other than that the smallblock damper will fit just fine.

The damper #s I gave are for a 6.75" damper that will clear the water pump. The 6.75" balancer will not clear the timing tab, it will have to be flattened or removed. A small block Proform timing tab with the bottom hole enlarged will match the tdc exactly on the 348/409.:cheers

I know I'm bring up old stuff, but...... I would like to know if this balancer which was on my 65' 409 is alright to use still? The timing mark is straight up above from the key for the crank. It is a tad over 6 inches. The numbers on the balancer are 6904 J7F if this means anything.

Dq, Your right, I just thought this one came off this my crank and since it fits the timing marker, I just figured what the heck. The 350 damper are larger, but I know your right.
thanks,
Art

Sorry Art ,,,I was a little ruff !! I`m home sick and get a little testy when I feel this way,,,,,,
That balancer looks old and abused,,,, The front looks like it has been hammered a few times and the snout is worn pretty deep.
Spring for the new one,,,,,dq:D

Hey 29...
If the balancer in question in being sold by Race Parts Inc... DONT BUY IT!!!!!!! It is a made in China cheap piece of junk!!!! The inertia ring slips relative to the hub... That is nothing to chance... Save money on your project elsewhere, but defective balancers are very dangerous !!!
BTW.... On top of the $60, you get to pay $17 shipping from CA and you will spend another $17 sending back to them, and good luck in getting your money back from them too!!!
