As a new member of your organization, it still amazes me the info. you guys are putting out! Thanks. I just purchased a '62 bubbletop from Bill Scott, Medina, OH. (musclecars) I was telling a local painter here in Bakersfield, of the car. He mostly paints for the Hispanic "hydraulic hoppers". His work is incredible. He does mostly Chevrolet. I showed him a picture of my car and he said he has painted a couple hundred 60's chevys in the past 25 years but has never seen one of this nature. I then said, I opened the driver door and the ID tag said "GM of Canada". Joe lit right up. You know Dennis, the Hispanic "hoppers" are all looking for the Canadian frames because they are stronger. Has anyone heard this or read this somewhere? Secondly, how are the frames stronger? And third, why?
PS: Thanks alot Joe. Now I really have to watch my car!!!

I have a friend who has two 62 Bel Air Bubbletops, one made in the US and one in Canada that I can look at side by side and see if there are any obvious differences. I will try to do that this weekend.

Not as far as I know. FOR SURE, they ARE NOT BOXED

Aubrey: Judging from your photos, the frames may not be boxed but the boxes should be framed.

I think the Canadian frames the lowrider guys like are the frames that are boxed all the way to the back. Most of the frames aren't boxed for the last 3' or so where they go under the trunk. I've seen that style of frame but I don't think they came on Canadian cars. I think that's just the way a certain frame suplier built them. But I sure don't know which plants used them.

OK, so the consensus is that the Canadian frames were not boxed.
Then we need to answer Bumpsters question.
Why do they want the Canadian frame?
Drunk guy sitting in a bar over hearing two guys talk about Canadian girls.
The drunk turns to them and says,,," All Canadian
women are either whores or hockey players"
One guy tuns to the drunk and says " Hey ! I married to a Canadian gal !!"
Drunk says,,"O,,,, What team does she play for !!! "" :rofl

You guys are getting closer..I think. Now let me see, the Canadian frame is boxed, yet should not be twisted, rotten or misused! It is stronger because the women are half again as big as the normal man. I'm going out right now to see if the frame I have fits any of this. :?

I wasn't able to look at the frames this weekend but asked the owner of the cars to look. He said that they look the same the only difference he saw was that the lines are run differently, the fuel line is run on the outside of the frame on the Canadian car where the US car is on the inside of the X frame. The other differences in the two cars seems to be the appointments to the interior trim, the steering column is different. All electrical devices, generator, gauges are Delco of Canada and even the headlights are marked GE of Canada.

Hey Bill....
That difference in the fuel lines..... That's just the 6 cyl / 283 ( 2bbl carb ) 5/16"... which runs outside the X in the frame vs the 327 ( and all 4bbl engines ) & 409 3/8" line, which runs through the X directly beside the driveshaft  .... Who knows :dunno . I know NHRA / IHRA won't let you have it there :doh

Aubrey
That may be the difference then because the Candian car was a six cylinder and the US car came with a 283. I haven't raced for a long time but when I did it was in the Altered and Gas classes so I really am blind to what went on on the other side of the track but to me it would make sense that even the stock classes should have no fuel or brake lines where the drive shaft can damage the lines.
I guess the main point is and I would think you would be aware of the differences, there just seem to be no differences in the frames.

My 64 came with the 6 banger. The stock fuel and the brake line run inside the X right next to the drive shaft( I wonder which brain surgeon designed that?
One other thing, It ran ,undefeated, at the local track until it closed in 1981. I think you could run them like that in the stock class. Just my guess...

Jester.... You mean INSIDE the X ? ... like the fuel line in inside, right beside the driveshaft hanger bearing ?
If so, then:
(a) it's a 327 ( or bigger ) car
(b) someone changed the fuel line to the high-perf style
One other note... on the 3/8" fuel line car, the fuel line does not run beside the brake line at the centre of the X. That's where they "part company" so to speak.

I'm afraid so. I've have it as part of the plan for the car to re-route both those lines as soon as I install the lift in the garage. I never liked the idea of the drive shaft taking out the fuel line, (elec. fuel pump) and the brake line, me and the car turning into a fire ball and not being able to stop . Not my way of spending a Sunday afternnoon.
