Ya I am stuck on it!! And as it gets warmer and warmer so does my shop :)

First though I have done about everything else to a car I have never ever even opened up an old 3rd member axle. Mostly just replaced them but this time I am trying to stay real to the cars era. Why? Who knows maybe the Oly stubs are starting to get to me.

Questions

can you put the posi carrier in a standard 60's era rear end?

If I cannot find what I am looking for what other rear end will work

in of course my 1960 chev

thanks

Mike

My understanding of the deal is that you can put a posi carrier in an open rear pig. I think there is some grinding for clearance involved. You can install almost any style rear in your 60, it involves narrowing and welding the correct brackets.

open rear? My 60 has the stock rear end it came with and I found a POSI carrier from a 62 Impala. I got a grinder and a welder :)

The side of the case.. Some people are good at doing it with a torch. While your at it, go to the 4 wheel drive parts center. They have clutch packs for them for a MOPar dana 44. There like 35-40 for a kit and it will make it all nice and tight agin too.

Isn't there a post sticking up in the case that needs removed?

That sounds pretty simple. Thanks for the clutch info. Looks like the others are not POSI's so I'll grab a carrier and start collecting parts.

Thanks

if you can...grab a p case if its cheap....you will be happy in the long run.

I would grab a p case complete but most people think they are gold. And when you add gold plus shipping gold equals poor return on what I am doing. IF I was building a down to the nuts SS or something I would break down and do it.
This way I get what I want, POSI, and get to learn something new, POSI, so it's all POSITIVE :)
If on the other hand I wanted to hack it I would find a 12 bolt and start trimming and re-welding but that would take the car to far off from orignal for me since sometime after I get done tearing down the 1320' of fun I will restore it to mostly all stock or some one else will and I think they would appreciate me not hacking it up.

I am looking for Old chevy rear end rebuild guides if there are any out there!!! Got a WCFB to trade!!

thanks

Mike

Brakes where easier!!!
