Hello,

I have read several of the starter and flywheel posts and I am still a little confused. I am building a 1960 348. I have a cast iron bellhousing that I think is from 1957 or 58. I am using a 168 tooth flywheel. The 348 block has three threaded holes for bolting a starter UP to the block. The bellhousing also has three holes for bolting a starter. Can I use a starter that bolts to the bellhousing, or do I need one that bolts to the block? I am not concerned about numbers matching correctness, only functionality.

THANKS for all the help.

If you have a bell housing that is designed to have a started bolted to it, you'll have to use that style of starter. If you go with a starter that bolts to the block, you'll have to change bell housings or cut a big chunk out of your current housing. The starters that bolt to the bell housing shouldn't be that hard to find. I've got them at parts stores with little problem.
