Droptops recent post made me think of this. Everyone post a TV show or movie that features a 1958-1965 full size Chevrolet. (short description if available too)
To keep it fun, your only allowed 1 car per post. You can post more than once but you have to wait until someone else replies after your last post before you can post again! :D (oh the things I think of at 6:40 AM!) :rofl
I'll start with an obvious one: (there may be more than one car per movie, if so, they must be listed in seperate replies)
1) American Grafitti: 1958 Impala 2 door coupe, 327 w/6 Strombergs, chrome reverse wheels, white w/white tuck & roll interior.

2 I can think of off the top of my head:
"A Perfect World" (Kevin Costner, Eastwood)-- there's a '59, I think it's a blue 4 door sedan. Somebody shoots a hole threw the roof, as I recall.
"Peggy Sue got Married" (I forget who was in it)-- 58 Impala

I can remember watching the Dina Shore show for years as a kid. I must have seen quite a few Chevy adds featuring our year cars. See the USA in your Chevrolet.

Bewitched.
Chevrolet must have been a sponsor for that show.
The outside of the house driveway shots always showed Darrin with what must have been the most current model chevrolet at the time, mostly convertibles if I remember correctly.

Ok Bob this is for 58-65 but,I like the 57 on The Hollywood Knights,Tony Danza drives this Supercharged Yellow 57 Chevy.Super Chevy bought this car and made it a project car and became to be known as Project X.This is a great car flick Guy's even though it's a 57 :D
Bob,sorry for hijacking your thred :D but this moive is my favorite, along with Two Lane Blacktop

Hey Jim,
I think Popular Hot Rodding already owned Project X when the film was made.
And when exactly did Super Chevy take over, Project X 57 had always been a part of PHR magazine.
I love that movie too and I absolutely hate yellow cars, but for some reason that is the coolest 57 Chevy.
JimKwiatkowski

Todd, your are correct :doh I remember the 57 on display at Super Chevy Shows. There sister mag's but Popular Hot Rodding did the Project X.

02-19-2005, 04:17 PM
I think Super Chevy did the last re-do on the project X 57.
I am curious as to why this wasn't done through Popular Hot Rodding like it had always been in the past??

I just ordered More American Graffiti from Netflix (my DVD rental ).Has anyone seen this moive :dunno
More American Graffiti (1979)
Ron Howard, Cindy Williams and most of the cast of the original American Graffiti reprise their roles in this sequel directed by Bill Norton. This film captures the group at four subsequent New Year's Eve celebrations from 1964 to 1967, with the Vietnam War, San Francisco's Haight-Ashbury neighborhood and the peace movement as the ever-shifting backdrop. Their friendships change and so do their fortunes as the country faces strife.
Starring: Ron Howard, Cindy Williams, More
Director: Bill L. Norton

Jim, I purchased that VHS last year and it's OK. Jumps around in pic. in. pic. frames too much for me. :dunno The dragstrip shots are worth the watching and look for Harrison Ford (NOT in credits) as the motorcycle cop! Vietnam scenes with "Toad" are pretty good as well...

Ah yes, I remember that episode well. They used that green car blowing up in the beginning shots of the show from then on too.
It was funny, the crooks steal a real nice white 63 Impala 2 door coupe and after driving it around for a while, they paint it and change the plates and suddenly, it becomes a horrible green 64 2 door sedan.
I think the 63 was just an Impala but I could be wrong. I do remember them beating the crap out of it, flying around corners so hard I think the rockers had to touch the road! :takethat I think it had fender flags but couldn't see any 409's on it. (probably a 327)

I don't remember seeing any 58-65's on the Brady bunch. There was newer cars like early 70's. The one where one of the kids puts an umbrella through the convertible top at the drive in movies comes to mind.
Wow, off the topic but do you remember drive in movies?!? Sure wish they'd make a comeback! We've got one near me that has been closed for a long time (20 years I bet!) and has been for sale for a l-o-n-g time. No takers. I bet it will be turned into a strip mall if it does sell.

Here's an obscure one....
1967 episode of the Fugitive ( near the end of the series... it's in colour ). Jack Lord ( Steve McGarret, Hawaii 5-O ) plays the "bad guy". His female accomplis drives an aniverseray gold 62 Impala convertible... with some very strange looking wheel covers on it.
There's also an earlier episode where Dr Kimble is travelling with Gerrard's wife. The "bad kids" have a short scene driving a 60 El Camino.
For the most part though, the Fugitive ( 1063-1967 ) had the cars provided by Ford.... including a couple street versions of the AC Cobra !

Full Synopsis
A man must decide if his greater loyalty is to his family or to justice in this made-for-TV movie based on a true story. In 1963, several members of a Southern Ku Klux Klan chapter bombed an African-American church in Birmingham, AL. Four young girls died in the blast, but the police were unable to prosecute the most case at the time because no one was willing to testify against the most likely suspects, or even say what they knew about them. Tom Cherry (Tom Sizemore) is the son of Bobby Frank Cherry (Richard Jenkins), who moved from Alabama to Texas not long after the bombing. Now a grown man in middle age, Tom has known since he was a boy about his father's involvement in the Ku Klux Klan and his participation in the Birmingham church bombing, but he's never been able to bring himself to tell the police what he know, or turn his dad over to authorities. However, when investigators reopen the case and begin asking both Tom and Bobby Frank tough questions, Tom struggles to decide what he should do, with his good friend Garrick Jones (Ving Rhames) urging him to help the authorities bring the guilty parties to justice. For a look at the facts behind the Birmingham church bombing case, viewers should also take a look at Spike Lee's acclaimed documentary 4 Little Girls. ~ Mark Deming, All Movie Guide

Does anyone remember the short run TV series called Almost Grown? It starred Timothy Daly (from tv series Wings) He was a program director at a radio station and a certain old song would come on that would remind him of an earlier time in his life and they would flashback. Well, anyway one episode I remember very well was when they flashed back to his highschool days and he had bought a used 62 impala with a dual quad 409. The entire episode was about this car. How he had carb problems and overheating. I even remember all his passengers complaining that he should turn off the heat but he explained that all the insulation was removed so the car would go faster. One of the greatest tv episodes of all time.

In the sitcom "My Wife and Kids", there is an episode that Michael Kyle Junior buy a 1964 Convertible Impala to restore.
I also remember an old movie with Tony Randall and his car is a black/black 1958 Impala Convertible. There is a magician in the movie that makes Tony's life very complicated. I can't remember the movie's name, but I can't forget that nice '58! :D

So far no one has mentioned the '59 2-Dr Sedan that appears in at least a few episodes of The Andy Griffith Show. Not sure if it's a Bel-Air or a Biscayne. It's really interesting as the show was sponsored by Ford cars.

I know that one well. I love that movie and watched it not long ago. I have to correct you though, it was a 1961 Impala and I believe it was an AVIS rental car??? (think I saw a sticker on it somewhere???) It was seeing that car as a kid that made me love 61 Chevy's, the rest is history! :love
The only part in that whole movie that sucked was seeing them run that car into the ditch. (and getting banged up from the Dodge)
There is another movie that comes to mind with a '61 in it. I'm still waiting to see it again (waiting for probably 20 years now!) but there was a movie with Robert Conrad in the 70's called, "Murph the Surf". He was a jewel thief. In it, I recall seeing him in a red 61 convertible with red/white interior. Saw it when I was a kid and to this day, never forgot that beautiful machine. I've even written TV stations asking them to put it on but nobody has in all these years.

The movie *61 about Roger Marris has a quick shot of a black on black 58 convertible when they show the back end of a N Y yankee bus. And on the subject of drive in movies there is still one in limited operation in Earlville, Il. about 90 miles west of Chicago on US 34. There is also one in Gibson City Il. on rt US 47. Did ja ever notice how everyone can catch a glimpse of the year cars they own? I can spot a 58 Impala from a mile only seeing a 1x1 ft. section of the roof. :)
