Guys, I need your help. :help I am replacing my bias ply tires
on my 60 chevy with new Wide Whitewall Radials. The car is
completely stock so I have ordered size P215/75R14 which I am
now having second thoughts about.
After talking to several people I have about decided to change the
tire size to P215/70R14. The 75R14 has a tread width of only
5.58 vs 6.40 for the 70R14. I believe wider is better on such a heavy
car? The overall Dia for the 75R14 is 27.11 vs 25.90 for the70R14.
I'd like to keep the car as low as possible. Any and all thoughts
would be appreciated. I going on vacation Wed. so I need a quick
response so I can change my order before its too late. I also ordered
GM Style O.E rims size 14 x 7. Plan to keep the bias tires in the
basement on the orginal rims. Thanks. :) :)

I sure don't want to rain on your parade, but. for handling and appearance I wish you would have gone to a 15" tire. The wheel openings on the 60 are quite large and the 15" tire helps fill them. I run with 255/60R15s on the rear and 235/65R15s front. If you want to keep it stock looking?? you would have to match the radial tire size to the old bias plys! I have a hard time with the mind set of putting those bicycle size tires on these full size boulevard cruisers :? but then I'm a die hard Hot Rodder! :beerbang

Russ348,
I have a set of 15 X 7 rims for sale that I originally ordered for my 62. I went with the stock rim.
Look here: 15 X 7 rims (http://www.348-409.com/forum/showthread.php?t=3980)

Forgot to mention the fact :doh that I am running the full wheel cover
with the stock flipper. Just about requires me to use a 14" rim.
Guess my real questions is which tire would be the best choise.
P215/75R14 or P215/70R14.

Russ, I think 215 stands for the width of the tire in millimeters and the70 or 75 is the height of the sidewall or the Aspect Ratio, which is the % of the width. The 215's should be very close in width.

The 70 and 75 series tires are so close in size it really doesn't matter which one you choose. either size will be fine. the 75 series will look more factory.
Unless you plan on doing some racing or heavy cornering you will be fine.
Not really as big a deal as you think.
