View Full Version : 409 Numbers
I have a 409/425hp that I'd like to have verified. It's complete, totally rebuilt including carbs. Never fired.
Here are the numbers:

Thanks for the verifications and kind words guys. I don't want to stick this in my wife's '58 Impala so I'll post it for sale. I'll bounce down to the 'for sale' forum in a day or two.

Hate to mention this, but the front carb is wrong. It has a choke in it. Should not have a choke. Looking farther, neither carb is the correct carb for a 425 409. The fuel inlets are wrong. Should be in the passenger side front. Other than the carbs, it looks good. The 58 covers might present a problem on the driver side, near the brake master cylinder. There was a reason that they angled the ends of the covers, but I don't remember what it was, now. Seems like it was a clearance problem with something.
Nice looking motor. I might have to remove a head to see what's inside. Just to make sure.
Some of this is nit picking, but there are no wire stands on the rear of the covers. I doubt there are drippers inside the covers. This isn't a problem if you are using roller rockers, but there should be drippers if using stock rocker arms.
