A couple of weeks ago I stumbled onto an ORIGINAL 61 SS wheelcover on ebay! When I got it, I was kinda suprised to see that it was actually a different cover than the standard, 1961 Impala wheel cover. The SS cap doesn't have the hole for the plastic emblem. This ones got some pitting on the spinner but its not too bad. The wheelcover its self is SUPER nice!! I think this one has been off of a car for a long, long time! Check out the pics!!!

Ross,

Nothing new here, this is sometimes a way of weeding out the fake SS's. Try asking one of these guys that you see at the local shows beaming proudly beside their 61SS's to remove a hub cap and let you see the back side. Most of them won't know what you are talking about, those that do probably won't let you see the back side. There's not a lot of these hub caps around. There were 453 sets installed on the factory cars, I don't know how many sets were in the dealers parts dept.
I had a gentleman contact me just last night with a NOS set of 4 that he wanted to sell. I don't need them, if anyone on the site would like to have a set of "real SS" hub caps, let me know, I'll pass the word to him.

Ross,
FYI, the '62 SS wheelcovers were done in the same way, i.e. did not have the center plastic emblem or the hole for it.
