Well I have removed the front and rear Rochesters and found they weren't exactly the same. :doh I purchased these from a guy a long time ago. The throat size was 1 3/16 and 1 3/32 . How would that affect the running? Also the ventura clusters were different . :doh One was right as far as I can tell from photos in books, it had the two tubes running down into the carb , the other had 4 tubes like a primary carb. Not sure how much difference that would have made in the idle or running. I have ordered the right cluster to replace it. Also both bodies had the power piston in place but no down rod to activate them. :doh I will plug these off. Again don't know if these being in the carbs would have mattered. I am not sure what size jets I should be running. :help Again the engin is a mild build with a mild cam. I found another 2G bodie that had the same size throat and I have changed it out. Both being the 1 3/32 now.
I carefuly inspected the bases and if you hold them up to a strong light you can see faintly light around the edges of the plates. I mean very faintly. Not sure how tight is right. If no light is right then I will need to replace the plates or the entire base. Right now I am waiting for the ventura cluster and plugs for the power valve.

Al i don't think that you want any light coming thru the bases. I talked to Larry Fulton and to Charlie Price at Vintage Speed and they both agree that no light is a good thing. Charlie sells refurb bases and will take yours as a core. I would think that you would want to try 61 jets but some of the other guys have been running three two's longer than me and will help you here. The original carbs had a 1 3/32 venturie for the primary and 1 1/4 for the secondaries. I don't now the significants of this mix other than one is going to flow more than the other. If you get on line and look up Vintage Speed he has a great site and lists all the parts you need. Charlie runs a business out of his house in Vero Beach with his wife and one tech. He can be difficult to talk to and likes to do most of his business on the web. Primarily that is because he is so busy. I sent my brother in law over to visit with him this past fall ( he lives in Vero) and he told him he has no walk in trade. I have tried to call him on several occasions and have not had much luck (you get stuck in voice mail jail) however he has always come thru for me via email. Keep us posted on how you make out. :)

Thanks for the input. :) I will try what I have before I look at new bases. Chances are I will have to have new bases or at least new plates in them. :dunno I did order the jets from Vintiage Speed. As soon as I get them I will give the carbs a try again and see what happens. I guess I have primary bodies for the end carbs, I need moe input on that before i look at changeing them.

If you're willing to do business with Charlie @ Vintage Speed, then you're just askin' for trouble. He might be a decent source of information, but caveat emptor if you ever think buying something from him. I can't begin to count the number of people he's screwed over or sold shoddy work to - including my brother.

Curious, I'm just now starting to read a stack of hot rod magazines I haven't taken the time to read. Anyway, October issue of Rod and Custom has a VERY good article on building a set of triples using a kit sold by Speedway Motor's. This kit has all the parts needed to take 3 matching Rochesters and make two ends and one middle. I know it's a pain in the rear but it would be worth your while if your interested in building a CORRECT set of GOOD RUNNING tri power carbs it would be worth your while to send away via Email for a back issue October 2004 and reading what they did and how they did it. I don't know what the kit costs maybe Speedway has a web site (they're a big mail order outfit).
Building a triples set up without the corectly set up carbs seems like more work than it's worth. This kit and 3 carbs should get you there. If you can rebuild a Rochester 2GC you should be able to handle it. And from what the article describes there's more to it than just grabbing 3 2GC's and boltig them on.

For those not in the know....Speedway has contracted with Vintage Speed for their kit that they sell in their catalog. If you did not want to do business with Charlie Price then you may not want to buy this kit. :?
