I need a timing cover for my 348 and saw one on ebay. It is at $80. and rising. Are they that valuagle? Is Ebay driving everybody crazy? I need an oil pan also and I realize they are hard to find so the price go up, but a timing cover $80? Give me some input please. Thanks, MIKE

Which version were you looking at??? That will make the deciding factor on the price. IF its a hi horse or low horse one.

I paid $105 for mine but it was the Hi-po cover for the 400hp 409. I got it from Late Great Chevy's "Old Gold" section.
Thought that was alot to pay for it but the guy doing my engine managed to lose my original and I needed on ASAP so what ya gonna do? :dunno
Oil pans.... forget it! I'd like to get a spare since mine has been modified to fit my 66 Chevelle but the prices scare me off.

E-bay and Barret Jackson etc. are going to ruin the hobby. Let's all be realistic on prices. Like that 3 mil. something that sold at auction!!!! My view point

With all due respect, he'd have to pay for it or discount it from the price he's charging you. :doh .

You do realize the $3 million car was a pretty unique, 1-off prototype. The price it garnered isn't going to affect the price of a run of the mill 1963 Impala with a 409.
While eBay and other auctions have driven up the prices on some items, I think it'll settle back down in a few years once people get fed up and stop being willing to pay the higher prices.

Right Mike, I hope it comes back to a reasonable range. I want our younger restorers to be able to restore their cars without having to mortgage their everything!! :) . You know what I mean.. Mike

I doubt prices will ever come down on good original parts. History shows prices only go one way and it's UP. ;)
