I need some advice on gearing. My little Touring weighs about 2000 pounds. I am running a 358 CID W motor with a 425HP 409 cam, solids. Turbo 350 tranny with a Ford 9" and 3.89 gearing. My rear tires are 291/4" tall.

I dont have the speedo hooked up yet but I was turning 2900RPM at about 60 MPH this weekend.

My questions. What is the optimum range for this cam? Where does it like to run? What gearing would be the best all around WITH this combo?

The tirea are HURST Cheater slicks, I plan on getting a set of radials for long trip and can jump up to a 30" or 31" tire for highway use.

The HURSTS and 3.89s sure are fun around town!

i think your combination is about right. your cam choice will make it's power from about 3500 rpm on up. i think your speedo is off, i think at 2900 your running about 70 mph. with a light car like your's (about half of our impalas) it should really fly! take a look at my old tee-bucket in the photo albums, it weights 2100 lbs. it has a 3.55 gear in it and at 90 mph. it will still break the wheels loose. ( light car, alots of power, oh boy! )
