Hey guys, I got another quick question. Does anyone have a picture or a diagram showing the exact location of the spark plug wires going to the distributor? My 348 has only been run a little bit, and runs like crap, Im not sure if I got the wires in the right spot and I was looking at a '58 283 I have and according to that Im 2 spots off, but that just dont seem right. A close up picture of a dist pointing out which wire is #1 would be great! Thanks guys.

Later, CK.

I scanned a pic from a 64 Motors manual, but I can't "upload" the attachment. I tried everything including going back to "test style". Nothing works. Sometimes my computor gets a glitch and stuff doesn't work right. Maybe someone else can scan. Sorry....

Carl, hope this is what you want,#1 is towards the front of the engine. The fireing order is 1-8-4-3-6-5-7-2 going clockwise :)

This is a scan from a 64 Motors manual. The wire position and firing order are for 348 and 409.

Carl, remember one thing, #1 on the distributor can be wherever you want it to be. The diagram above shows where it was supposed to be but that doesn't mean yours will be there.

Turn the engine over so the line on the harmonic balancer is pointing to 0, pull the cap off and the rotor will either be pointing to #1 or #6. If it's 6, rotate the engine over 1 more revolution and see what spot the rotor is pointing. That will be your #1 wire. (all this is assuming the balancer hasn't slipped on it's ring)

Once #1 is determined, simply go around clockwise making sure the wires are running to the correct cylinders from there. (the one to the left of #1 should go to #8, the one to the left of that should go to #4, etc, etc)

Hey guys, thanks, I had changed them before I posted the question and I had them dead on to the 64 diagram. I got it running OK, still need to tune it more and work out some bugs. I took the car out on Monday for a test drive. :brow First time driving a W powered car! When it would quit stumbling and run good, she really went! :D Even though it is just a stock truck motor. Its got a WAY better rumble than that little ole 283 had too!

Well, later, CK.
