Well, I got great news and not so good news last week from the engine shop. They were able to fix the cracks in my 63 QG engine block. The magnaflux found 10 cracks. All were repaired and the block pressure checked out at 30 PSI.

Does anyone know why they used 30 psi? It seems a bit low. Were they concerned with the welds or weak other areas? According to the shop 30 was sufficient as the pressure in the water jacket should be no more than 12-15 psi.

Now the bad news, they recommend boring the cylinder over .030. I know zip about the inside of an engine other than being able to tell you what each part is. However, when it comes to a rebuild I'm a novice. The shop tells me that the .030 over bore will require new pistons. I also need a new camshaft, oil pump, and lifters.

Does anyone have any recommendations on components? I'd like to keep total cost down if possible. I was hoping for $1500 total but that seems out of the question. I have $650 in the tear down, magnaflux and cast repair.

I know a lot of this is personal preference. I intend to use a dual-quad set-up and hope to have a cruisable street motor that will blow most Honda's doors off. (In case I get teh urge from a stop light) But I don't want anything to extreme. Just hoping for the factory 340+ hp range that will handle the dual quad fuel.

You folks have steered me right in the past. Any suggestions that you may have to keep me from throwing money away would be a big help in my resto project.

Also, I was leaning to using Showcars for all my parts :dunno . Any thoughts?
