I have a factory 2 x 4 set up on my 409, to try and eliminate the vapour lock problem I had last summer (before my car ships out to the hotter climate of the USA) I am fitting an electric fuel pump. When I fire it back up what fuel pressure do these factory carbs like? I am thinking 6 or 7 psi or is this too much? I Don't want to push fuel past the needles
Any help greatly appreciated :)

6 to 7 psi is ideal for street use.

1962 Impala SS. I haven't had the car for long. I only test drove it once when the weather got milder. It ran good. The next time I tried to start it ..nothing. I checked the carb and pumped the throttle. No gas squirting in the carb. Must have run the car dry. The gas guage reads FULL but it probably doesn't work. Bad guage or sending unit maybe. I poured a few gallons of fuel in the tank..still nothing. poured just a touch of fuel done the carb throat ..turned it over and it ran for 2 seconds and quit. I took off the fuel line to the carb and cranked the engine. No fuel coming out of the line from the fuel pump to carb line.

This is as far as I got today. The car ran good pretty good at idle before the problem started but it bogged a little when I drove it that one time.

Vapour lock?
So..Fuel Pump?
Blockage? from tank to pump?
Any suggestions?

If its a fuel pump and if I can't get one for a 409 would a 348 fuel pump fit? I saw on this site that a small block pump would fit too.

P.S. Is a fuel guage hard to find for this car? Can it be ordered from from GM dealer? Gas tank sending units too? Or is EBAY and junk yards the only source?

Call Phil Reed, he should be able to hook you up with the needed parts. Fuel pump is an easy find! Summit or Jegs will fix you up. For the Dual Quad setup I would suggest a performance pump that will deliver 6 psi, no more than 7 psi, Carter is a good choice. Phil Reeds E mail can be found in the members list.
