Hi!bought Engine From An Asshole(sorry)in Baltimore Due 2 My Stupidity When Asked Said Just Rebuilt!left In Corner!sold To Me!got Home New York!rust Inside The Motor!called Him Said Rebuilt 16 Years!left In Corner!!so Began Cleaning Up Rust!he Said Just Start N Go! So Ran Distributor I Side No Oil Till Foptnd Out Needed The Bottom Of Dist.key To Turn Open The Side Rail For Other Bank!but Until That Was Found We Dissabled Moto Sent Out To Get Done They Cleaned Block/polished Crank/never Honed/just Cleaned Up New Heads/new Rings/new Seals/new Gasket/molly Rings?? Now Since Re-assembling Complet It Burned 3 Qts!100 Miles! Advised My Mechanic I Thought Valve Seals?we'll It Was So They Cahanged Was O/k. Then Burning Again ??they Say Rings??molly Chromes Take Very Long Time!!i Would Like Maybe Some Advise Or Someone In New York That Maybe Can Bring To ??thanks,mike. I Still Think Again Valve Seals Maybe A Burr??

3 qts every 100 miles :cuss bet you wont have a skeeter problem up there this summer :D I dont think that much oil could go down the valve guides if you left the seals off!

I would say you have a piston ring problem.Won't the repair shop that did the work stand behind there work :dunno .Here's a link about Piston Rings that might help :dunno

Sound like it's time for a can of BonAmi powder down the throat of the carb with the engine revved up to seat the rings.
