I have a 63 Impala SS convertible with a stock 327/300hp on a 2 speed powerglide...all stock. The diff housing has a "P" on it for posi, what was the stock gear ratio for a 300hp with a powerglide? 3.08? :dunno There is no visible differential code.

well cant really go by factory paperwork cause i seen some cars with powerglides come with 3.70 overdrive rearends, and some that came with quicker rearends than that. But i would say your looking at about 3.35:1 to a 3.70:1 rearend for the SS since it would have to have the power now if its not then you migth have a 3.08 but the 3.08 was used on the small 195 hp 283 standard.

It's probably a 3.08 rear. Go to our home page and look at the Diff code location picture. See if you can find the code.

nomadci: The factory stock gear ratio for the 1963 327/300 with powerglide was 3.36. The 409/340 Powerglide also came with a 3.36. 327/250 Powerglides came with a 3.08 and so did 283s except wagons and Impalas which had the 3.36 gear. 1963s with Powerglides were not available with a 3.70 gear...at least not from the factory..

MK II well apparently they did cause a friend has a documented 63 belair with a powerglide and a 3.70 rearend. dated coded matches, and the broadcast sheet he found also says the same thing that its a overdrive rearend.

It just seems odd to me that a person wanting 'performance' bad enough to order a 3.70 rear optional would then opt for a Powerglide! :scratch But the world takes all kinds.

Can you tell I'm a 4 speed fan? :bow
