I'm installing a set of Edelbrock carbs on a factory dual-quad manifold. There's an area where the new carbs will likely develope a vacuume leak if a spacer is not used. I've got some 1" thick spacers that would work but I don't have enough hood clearance so I need a thin spacer. I can build one out of thin plywood if I have to but if anybody knows a part number for a thin spacer I might just buy one instead.

I'm using Edelbrock 1404's on my stock dual quad intake.

Here is what I used so that I wouldn't have any vacuum leak problems.

From ShowCars:

3320 58-64 AFB steel shim gasket for 1x4; this metal shim (3320) and 2 3320A gaskets can be used for a vacuum adapter block off plate for the use of after market AFB's on all GM Alum intakes Ea $8.25

I'm using a shim under each carb, and there is no problem with clearance.

If that can help,I made mine with a 1/4 thick steel plate ,thats work fine for me ,dont know if you can go 1/8 maybe ? its a bit of work but with a set of torch a drill and a good grinder should not be to much of a problem ,if you dont find one in a garage shop .

Thanks for the replies. I stoped off at my local speed shop and they had a pair of thin spacers that will work great. :D

Great, now take those spacers and make a pattern. Now find some phenolic plastic and make some spacers that will insulate the carb. #1 rule, ALWAYS FIX THEM FASTER! :D

Does raising the carb using spacers do anything for torque? was thinking the thicker the spacer the more low end torque, or does it help the top end?

A spacer, tall enought to get the throttle blades out of the manifold plenim is benificial all across the power band. Works on all motors. Some like open, some like 4 hole. I would match the manifold pattern.

so what do you think would be the result of a 2" spacer? say a 4 holer, looking for more bottom end torque. :dunno

Find a shop with a chassis dyno. Around here it's $35 a run with a printout. That will tell it all.
