Took the 61 out yesterday to give my Marine nephew a ride. :bow He will be shipping out to Iraq in Sept. I Pray for his safe return.
Anyway ,the brakes failed completely while headed for a crowded T intersection. I used the E brake and came to a safe stop. Funny how the car seemed to pick up speed when the brake pedal went to the floor. Managed to get home and into the garage. There was complete loss of fluid from broken hose.
Will be going to dual cyl from 69-70 Imp w/4 wheel drum. Anybody have a diagram of brake line routing including junction locations? Any suggestions on this swap?
Thanks,
Pat

Went to pick up the MC and it is different. The 61 has 4 mounting bolts and the 69 is 2. Checked all MC from 67-70 including Imp, El cam, truck, malibu, etc.
No luck. What dual MC will bolt to my 61 booster?

Pat,you might have to update your brake booster to the 2 mounting bolts :dunno .My 57 had 4 mounting bolts and i switched to the 2 mounting bolts.

Was hoping to avoid that . looks as though that may be the way to go. Could stay w/ single , too.
Maybe an opportunity for someone to make and sell the 4 bolt dual MC.
I cant be the only one who would want one.

No dont want to have another failure. just hard to not drive conv. on a beautiful day like we had 2day. So i guess booster and MC from 67-70 Impala should bolt right up?

The two-bolt master cylinder should bolt right up to the studs on the firewall (did on my '61). I don't have any cars with the old factory power brake setups, but I imagine it'd be the same on them as well. (?) This might be a good excuse to update to the modern style booster, too.
But if you can't swing the booster update or make the dual MC work with the older style booster, you'd really be better of giving up the power brakes for the safety of the dual MC. The power brakes are a bonus, but the dual MC is a necessity, IMO.
Try the Car Shop in Orange CA. I purchased a DMC for my 59 Bendix booster. The DMC was from a mid 60s application with four drum brakes. It's a two mount setup and it worked just fine on my four-bolt mounting booster. Obviously the top two bolts aren't used. This allowed me to use a stock booster and get redundant brakes (rear and front brake lines are seperate.

Russ,
I was thinking the 2 bolt MC would bolt up to the 4 bolt booster. Glad to hear it can be done.
Thanks ,
Pat
Pat, I have plenty of pictures if you would like to see what I did. Email me at crdsgoold@sac.sticare.com

Thanks to Russ for the pics. With his help I determined that the 2 bolt MC would bolt up to and work with my original 61 booster. MC is installed and front line too. Need to bend up line for rear brakes, then should be good for cruising.
Need to figure a way to hide the extra studs in booster. Will booster leak if they are removed? guess Ill find out.
