How do you guys get your avatars to look so good? Mine is so grainy. Is there a special way I should save my pic files or resize them? :dunno

How does the pic look before you resize it? I use Irfanview to do mine. It's a free picture viewer that you can also use to resize and make adjustments. I have also used Photoshop with same results.
Looking at your avatar above, a way to make it look better would be to crop around the car in the original picture so you get rid of the background. Then resize. That way the car will fill up the avatar better.
I'd be happy to crop & resize the pic for you and send it back. Just send me the original photo.

Bob, I unfortunately don't have the original but I do have a pretty good digital pic. All my avatars started out as large digital pics. Maybe thats my problem.

Ross,
Yes, the original digital pic is what I need. Send to bob@348-409.com
Jim, the ones that "move" are animated gifs like some of our smilies. You can upload jpg or gif files for an avatar. Not sure why they call them avatars, now where did I put my Websters dictionary? :D

Jim asks what an Avatar is, and wonders why some spend so much time on polishing their thumbnail pics :).
I don't know the answer to the latter (Because we can?) but the notion of an avatar is that of some deity in human form (kinda like Bob!). In the Hindu religion, incarnations of deitys in human form were regarded as special. My guess is some computer geek who once studied Hindu started calling these little "representations of oneself" avatars, and the label stuck. I just call them "thumbnails". I guess it's similar to the "sport coupe" versus "bubbletop" preferences we carry.
And that's my church lesson for the day. That doesn't mean you don't have to go to church today :).
Cheers,
TomK
