View Full Version : Raising the frontend?

The 60 always had a nose down attitude even with the 27" tire. I have 28" DOT drag radials on the car now. I don't mind the look but it's not good for weight transfer. I need a quick fix! One that does not involve removing the springs. Is there a fool proof spacer for the front spring that will give me an inch or two? :dunno

Ray,you know the correct answer is front springs to raise the 60.Do you think 1 inch will affect your ET in the 1/4 mi or your launch on the the starting line :dunno

I've used some rubber spacers that worked okay, or a least beter than jacking bolts. They look like an I beam or maybe more like an H shaped beam and they are about a foot long. you install them by jacking the car up and undoing one end of the shock if nesisary. Then you feed one end in between the loops of spring and push it along so that it follows the coils down like a snake. They come in a couple of different thickneses and I think the one I used was about an inch thick. So when you put the weight back onto the spring it holds the affected loops about an inch apart. It's not a perfect solution but it's the best way I can think of that doesn't involve a spring compressor. :dunno

I would think that you want a lot of upward motion when you launch. In 1958 there were no 90/10 shocks so I drilled a small hole in the left front shock and drain all the oil out of it. It had no rebound value. I went from 14:05 et to 13:90 et. It would get a little bouncy on rough tracks but the right shock kept the front end from getting to wild. :D Roy

Ray -
Roy has the right idea. QA-1 makes a good tunable shock although a little pricey. They are easy to dial in and the instructions are clear. The whole idea of weight transfer has been proven, disproven, proven and so on until as far as I know it has come down to getting lift on launch then settling down as you go down track for maximum control and least air resistance. Spacers pop out and can be especially dangerous when only one goes which is what is the usual case. If everything else is working okay, you won't have to tweak these shocks much right out of the box.

Ray, I gotta go with TM on this one.
Take a look at the way my 62 sits and the way it looks at launch !!!
I have the QA-1`s and the lift is great !!
I set them low for racing and dial them up for a firm street ride.
You can get cheaper ones but these are life-time shocks.
heck,,, for around thirty bucks you can get a set of front drag shocks that would cure your worries,,,,dq
