You may recollect I was cited for what turns out to be "improper muffler". http://www.348-409.com/forum/showthread.php?t=4528 The cop was really into his job, but I thought we parted on reasonable terms. At first he RAN for his car like I had just held up a convenience store and raced to catch me. Bear in mind, I was at 1000 rpm in second when I passed him 110 feet away. At the stop he came up and told me I was being stopped for not having a muffler. So what are those silver Jet-Hot pipes and muffler you can see from 15 feet away without bending over (which he did look at later)? I told him not straight pipes. Then he said they were glass packs. I told him Borla. Then he said they were out of compliance with the sound ordinance. I knew they were not and later took a db meter to it at the same place = 56db(A) and the limit is 65. No sense arguing so I took the ticket.
This is a $25, no points ticket. So why fight it? So if stopped again, I can show that the mufflers are legal. I pled not guilty, the judge (who was late to court) was annoyed and sent me to the city attorney. I showed him the mufflers and a he immediately said "Borla - legal - no problem." Cool guy. I schedule a trial date and left. The attorney went to this cop and said drop it so I wouldn't have to go back to court.
This dickweed cop said I was running straight pipes. Then he said I was running Cherry Bombs. He said the car rattled his windows (remember he was not in his car when I passed him) and that he could feel it in his chest. True when you're standing close, but he never was with it running. Then he said I had replaced the whole exhaust system and was lying. :cuss  I can't believe it! The guy is lying so he won't have to admit he incorrectly identified the muffler. I mean heck Officer Weiner Cop, if yer gonna lie and break your pledge, do it for something important.
So on the day of the stop I was headed for a meeting where a lot of city staff were present. Some saw the exhaust and muffler and thought it was a ridculous stop. After the meeting I went to the muffler shop to see if there was something I didn't know about that could calm it a little more. So he saw the system about an hour after the stop and that hour is accounted for by the meeting. Also two friends were passing by during the stop and pulled into the parking lot and saw the whole thing (smart) which the cop does not yet know.
I am scratching through the sheetrock to get this guy on the stand in July. I had a sound abatment company come out and measure the sound with the right gear and do all the measurements and several people are ready to testify. Borla sent me some really good stuff too. I hope he tells the same thing there and then I hit him with the witnesses and cram a Borla in his lap. Maybe I am a head case, but this isn't about mufflers anymore. I know lots of people in law enforcement and nearly all of them are fine people, but a guy like this deserves to answer for it.

You can sure believe that when an authority figure is caught in bad call or judgement - they'll make life hell for everyone rather than admit fault. That's a shame because nobody is infallible. Police included. :dunno
Wish ya luck, man. We're behind ya!

I had a cop who hated me and my chevelle so bad he gave me every ticket he could think of, and I was waiting for him to take out his night stick and break my headlights just so he could find something else to give me a ticket for. what an A-hole.
He lied saying I was hot rodding and switching lanes back and forth through traffic.
Kind of funny considering I had just merged onto the freeway, and had only been on the freeway for about half a mile.
I get hot tempered just thinking about how full of crap he was.
Go win your case, and if your lucky make him feel stupid too.
Good luck.

There is a young police officer that I am familiar with on my turf. This stud muffin is so full of himself he is hard to be around in any circumstance. Some people pursue a job in law enforcement for all the wrong reasons. On our cruisers it says to protect and serve. This guy is in law enforcment to serve himself! Then again, this guy would be an asshole if he were bagging groceries :dunno

Several years ago a friend of mine got a wild streak in him one day and decided to drive the old chevy coupe he drag raced up to the store. It had a big block open headers, drag slicks no wipers or headlights turn signals or anything. He took off up the road to the store went in came back out got in the car and when he took off he hammered down on it smoking the slicks, and getting sideways all over the highway then running it up to 100mph down the long straightaway from the store. About this time he noticed the State Trooper behind him with the lights and sirens going, after he came to a stop, the trooper asked for his license and registration, he showed his license but had no registration for the car, the tag was an old antique tag for another vehicle he no longer even owned. After talking his way out of going to jail for reckless driving he was given a ticket and had to have the car towed home.
He was a driver for a trucking company, so when his court date came up he was very worried about losing his license and this affecting his job. As he was waiting outside the courtroom , he got to talking with a lawyer who was a friend of his and who had another case he was also waiting on, the lawyer told him to let him handle it he wouldnt charge him anything , he could just buy him a case of beer some weekend.
When they went into the courtroom the trooper took the stand and told what happened , the lawyer then stepped up and asked the trooper how many cars were involved. The trooper replied : one, the lawyer then asked the judge to dismiss the case and he did. How you ask?
The trooper could have written the ticket for numerous offenses and even reckless driving but he only wrote the ticket for one offense (drag racing on a public highway). You cant drag race unless there are 2 cars involved. He got off scott free.

Thats too bad,........you're friend is an idiot, he deserves to have received a ticket, or many tickets, or to have been arrested. Guys like him make it hard for the rest of us that try to be legitimate with legal exhaust, license, registration, Insurance and fully street legal vehicles. You say your friend was smoking the slicks and getting the car all sideways on public roads, Too bad he did'nt get his license pulled at least for a month.

Mike, it is unfortunate that one bad apple can do so much damage to the integrity of many others in law enforcement that are not like that.
There is good and bad in every walk of life.
I think that going to court is a good thing. I'm confident that things will be settled to your satisfaction there...

Had a good one today, hit a seat belt check by the Pa state police.
Cop said all was good, then before letting me leave, he asked me my name. After I told him, he said he asked because I look like someone he was looking for!
He then said I had nice truck and left me go. :p :D

I was stopped for a seat belt check last year while we were out cruising in the '62. A very young officer came up to the car and wanted to know why we didn't have our seat belts on. I said that they were an option in this year car and I didn't have to have them. He started to get nasty with us when an older sergeant came up told the young cop I was right and told us we had a  car.

Hey Bob,
did he cap his shades and ask you out of the other side of his mouth (opposite the toothpick) "What's your name boy!"??
just kidding, seems like all those tough guy cops act the same.
you must have "clicked it" cause youre not telling us about a ticket.

Naw, he was decent. The state police are ok around here, it's some of those small town cops you have to watch. :p
Up until a few years ago, I never wore a seat belt. I almost drove into a seat belt check back then and after that, I decided to give it a try. I've been wearing it ever since! :D I feel naked without it in fact.

This reminds me a bit of when I was cited for no inspection just after getting my 72 Malibu. Here in Pa, you have 10 days to get the car inspected after transfering it into your name. You can drive it all you want too.
My car had a 1991 sticker and it was 1995. You should have heard the cop! He was acting all high and mighty, "I couldn't beleive my eyes when I saw that sticker" He just wouldn't listen to me that I was right and he was wrong so I took the ticket and smiled all the way home thinking how fun it was going to be to show this hot head cop a thing or two.
I got proof (a copy of the PA laws that state the 10 day rule) and went to the magistrates office a few days later when they scheduled me in. I no sooner walked in when I was told the ticket was voided and I could leave. Huh! No appologies? No nothing! The cop wasn't even there, probably hiding his face somewhere. hee hee
Alot of cops are good but this one really irked me. He acted like he was God. Just a young small town cop with an attitude. I bet he doesn't make this mistake again. :rofl
1972 Malibu in 1985, $500.00
Ticket for driving without an inspection, $96.00
Proving the young smart a$$ed cop wrong, PRICELESS!!! :D :rofl
