Hi Guys and Gals,
As the title says, this is my first post on this board. First let me say how good it is to have this place to come to for advice and commentary. Now, I will jump right in with both feet on this one, and hopefully I will get some good feedback on my somewhat off the wall idea. I bought a '65 5-ton dump truck with a 409 in it. My sole purpose for doing this was to replace the 409 with a late model 454 and put the 409 in another vehicle. No it's not a non-Chevy before anyone panics. It is a 1966 Chevy II. (now you can panic) What I need to know is: 1, has anybody done this swap, and 2, besides the obvious oil pan and exhaust issues, am I completely mad to even consider this or would it be something that others like yourselves would find as interesting as I do. To me, it would almost be like the 409 that SHOULD have been. Please feel free to shoot from the hip on this one, but try to keep it civil. Let me know what you think. Thanks, Hot Rod (Mike)

Welcome Mike...
Cant comment on the technical complexities of puting a 409 into your Nova, but you've come to the right place!!
We have 409s in Jeeps, Old Street Rods, '57 Chevys, you name it !!!!!!!

You'll find the help you need here...

Welcome To The Website, Hot Rod Mike!! There Are At Least 2 Members That Have
409-Powered Chevy II's. Their User Names Are: Oil4Kids (Mark Is His Real Name)-
He Owns A Replica Of The "Retribution II" Chevy II, Of Which Dicky Harrell Raced
Back In The Mid-'60s; Harrell's Had A Z-11 427 Racing Engine In It (Same Engine
Design As The 409, With A Bigger Crank And Better Heads And Intake), And, The
Other Guy Is Ronnie Russell-Him And His Partner Currently Race A 409-Powered
Early Chevy II ( In Fact, They Won An Eliminator Title, And, Finished 2nd In Another
Bracket,All In The Same Night, Just Recently, At A Drag Strip In Texas). These Two
Members Can Be Found In The Membership List Section Of The Website, And, They
Should Be Able To Assist You With Your 409-Chevy II Project. Also, If You Can Find
Them, Old Drag Racing And Hot Rod Magazines From The Early-Mid-'60s Can Be A
Great Source Of Help, As There Were Other Drag Racers Besides Dicky Harrell, Who Raced 409-Powered Chevy IIs. I Wish You All The Best With Your Project,
And, I Hope It Turns Out To Be A Really Fast Machine!! Regards:"ww".

Rock,
Man, I am truly grateful for the info. You guys took a HUGE load off of my shoulders already, and have given me the inspiration to make this happen. Ronnie has ALREADY contacted me to try to e-mail pictures. Thank you VERY much.

Dubya Twice,
Same for you brother, great info and words of encouragement. I can see this board is going to be a positive experience. Once I finish my mad scientific experiment on trying to make the day have more hours in it, then I will be able to dig into the Chevy II. Thanks a million, Hot Rod
