Does anyone know the cheapest place for sheetmetal? Im looking to replace the quarters on a 62 from the door to the rear. Ive seen some new quarters for around $400, thought I might ask around before I settled on one. Looks like I may replace all the sheetmetal but the roof.
Does anyone know if these complete quarters go all the way to the roof post on the 62 impala 2dr?
Thanks:cheers

Don't have an answer to all of your questions, but I can suggest one. Go with top quality sheet metal. If you're going to go thru all that labor there is nothing like top quality for a good fit, the correct body lines and longer lasting sheet metal.

Harley. Those 62 quarter pannels they're making are pretty crappy. The creases are not as sharp as they should be. For less money you can get the two per side lower patch pannels. Also kinda crappy but alot cheaper.

Harley,
We used a set of the full quarters from Cars, Inc. They were great. We had an experienced bodyman hang them, he seamed them behind the bodyside molding. An experienced eye wouldn't know they are repo. They went from the door all the way to the rear panel, and wrapped under to the rockers. The metal quality is superb. When we do another project, I would definitely use them again if the quarters are rough!!

I saw the repro '64 quarters at a swap meet and they looked G-O-O-D! (one of the major vendors like Sinclairs or something) I also got to see the repro 63 trunk lid and door skins. These also looked good. Now if I only had the money to buy them! :(
Im not 100% on this but I would think there's probably only one manufacturer of these panels. I doubt there are good ones and bad ones. Probably all come from the same place.
I just thought of something else I saw. A brand new repro frame and full floor pan with all braces welded on for the '57 Chevys. Priced around $4,000! (I think that was just the frame) Is there anything not available for the 57's?
Now, if they would come out with the 63 rear outer wheel houses and gas filler compartment, I could get my car in shape. Just a matter of time I suppose....

Harley:
Since this post is from last summer, don't know if you still need quarter skins or not, but wanted to reply here.
We are a distributor for Cars, Inc. who has the quarters. Current price is $379 per side. These are the only full quarter panel "skin" that is available. Bodymen who are used to NOS GM...think they are junk. But most shops don't have a problem with them. BUT, they are the only thing available!! That's what I have to stress with our customers.....no, it's not exactly (see that Avis!!!) GM but if you want to finish a car...it's the only thing available. It is a "skin"...there is about a 1" overlap on top of the quarter panel. It doesn't go up to the sail panel and trunk openings like GM but completely covers the side of the car. Most bodymen cut them in behind the quarter moldings and you never see any welds that way. You can cut in lower patch panels......but the seams will probably come back to haunt you in 3..4..5 years!!
I can have a set for you to pick up at the Convention....that will save you freight!!!!! Or.......I could trade you a set for the scooter you were wanting to sell!!!! :D :D :D

:cheers Ron, your a good man! It sure sounds like what I need! I wish they had a picture. I would imagine the driver side would have the filler compartment inlcuded. (for that price, it better!)
A bit expensive but that's living with old Chevy's I guess. Thanks for letting me know about these. It's about time they came out with 'em!
I wonder why they are selling them in pairs? I really only need the driver. Dangit.

If you go to their site, they do sell just the left.
Rich
I just looked again. For some strange reason, they only list the right side being available as a single

Harley,
If you post 1 pic, it will show, 2-5 pics and it will be links. 5 is the limit by the way. (unless we really need higher? I can set it higher if needed)

I think you may be right wrench. I recall seeing something about a thumbnail somewhere but will have to check and see if it's set to do that.
