Not 348- or 409 related.
Fran,
There is this guy who claims to be some sort of chevelle expert.
This so called expert has been trying to say that there is no tonawanda valve cover decals on early built 66 396 chevelles. He has not backed this up with any proof or verification. what are your thoughts?
I would be interested in knowing what is correct. My chevelle is a December 65 build at Fremont California.

Good question, but I don't know the exact date they started putting them on, 1967 model year but does that mean model year or calander year?. I have a booklet handed out at a 1967 open house that shows them but that would have been in the late spring or early summer of 1967.
But in consolation if you send me a SASE I'll send you some NOS Tonawanda stickers.
One of the Chevelle clubs could probably answer your question.

Hey Todd
One of my major pet peeves is proper decals and emblems in the right place.
It drives my friends crazy when I pick out the wrong emblem or the SS installed upsidedown....:doh
("Who else would know that?....") is what they usually say.
The No. 1 Tonawanda Team decals came out for the 67 model year.
I remember this distinctly when several friends bought new 67 big blocks and the first thing we noticed under the hood was that sticker on the right hand valve cover only near the front.
The best decal supplier (Jim Osbourne Reproductions) does not list these for 65 or 66.
Hope this helps

Most re-productions and that includes Osborne are incorrect in shape and color. The CORRECT color is more a turquoise blue than a pure blue. Laying an original on top of a repo shows the size difference. They were put on the front third of the valve cover about in the middle. There was no EXACTLY correct spot close was good enough. A side note, Flint also had a sticker (#1 Team was used as a Chevy wide promotion).
:help PS: someone teach me how to attach a picture from a digital camera and I'll try and post one of the sticker.

Jim: I down loaded the instructions and will look them over and see what I can do. I have NEVER emailed a picture from my camera except onto Ebay and a buddy of mine did that one time. I need to brush up on how to computer.
As far as the picture is concerned, it isn't the clearest, but you evidently have one on hand. Is the blue BLUE or is it more a pale blue/turquosish?.
Send me a SASE like drop top and I'll send a couple to you to and you can see first hand. It's a small point, but I expect the restorers who go crazy over each little paint dot and chalk mark should PREFER to have ACCURATE stickers!. I'm not a fanatic, but I absolutely LOVE it when I have some restorer type puff out his chest and say how accurate his restoration is, every mark and date code correct, every clip and wire, and then there it is, and inaccurate Tonawanda sticker staring back at me.
Not every re-pop sticker is incorrect, but most I've seen are. And it's really inexcusable. Unless it's done on PURPOSE so Chevrolet won't come after them for licensing, close won't draw the GM law enforcers, EXACT re-pops will.
